Barbed Wire Match: Carlos Colon vs. Jos LeDuc (February 1986) LeDuc's hands are fully wrapped which was smart but his head and body was naked and he got cut up by the wire very quickly. Colon just peppered LeDuc with punches but Jos would fight back and put the barbed wire in Colon's mouth which looked great. LeDuc then put Colon's shoulder into the wire and kept working over Colon. This became a back and forth battle with the wire being used smartly and both guys juicing heavily. Colon would lock on the figure-four and LeDuc was forced to submit. This was a good bloody brawl and I'm pushing this forward.

 

Kamala vs. The Invader (February 1986) Invader is bandaged here but that doesn't last long as Kamala rips it off and the blood pours. Invader is fiery as fuck here taking the battle to Kamala who just chops the shit out of him and this match has to be stopped because of the blood loss. Extra material.

 

Al Perez vs. Abdullah the Butcher (February 1986) This officially doesn't last long as the referee calls for the bell DQing Abby but he continues to beat the shit out of Perez who eventually just goes nuts and has to be held back by multiple referees. Extra material.

 

Next Mike Davis gets an award presented to him by Chicky Starr & Ron Starr and this gets extremely bloody right in front of Mike's wife and kids. Slam dunk extra material as they show him getting his arm stiched up.

This is followed by the epic Manny Fernandez/Invader III encounter which is a slam dunk extra if there ever was one.

Kamala vs. The Invader This was short, but really outstanding to the point where I have zero problem with it being on the set as a match. In fact the only real argument I can see against including it is that we don't have the payoff of this which looks to have been the first stage of an angle. Regardless this was great stuff as Invader hits the ring hard and Kamala goes straight to the bandage on his head and rips it off and then this becomes a five minute game of "can Invader survive." I think Invader's greatest strength as a worker is selling and the nature of his comebacks and this match combined those two elements as he was great selling the blood loss and eating Kamala's targetted shots and then throwing these desperate haymakers and chops to try and get himself back into the game. At a few points you almost think the's going to get it done, but Kamala is on point going after the cut, the blood gets worse and worse and eventually the ref steps it at about the 5:12 second mark. I liked this every bit as much as the Larry v. Bock match that made the AWA Set and was over a minute shorter bell to bell, so I will fight for this as a match.

 

Al Perez vs. Abdullah the Butcher Fucking nuts to see Al Perez of all people bring the fight to Abby. Say what you want about Abby, but his go to the fork bit is the equivalent of dropping the strap and I rather enjoyed him busting open Perez and then kicking his ass all over the infield after the match got tossed out. Possible EXTRA

 

Holy fucking shit the angle with Mike Davis is one of the most fucked up things I've seen. As he gets ambushed by the Starrs with his family right there and then as Kris said they actually show the arm stitching in close detail.

Hercules Ayala v. Carlos Colon - Texas Death Match Saying Ayala v. Colon Texas Death Match was clips is really pushing it. Yeah it starts with brawling in the infield already going on, but that was common at the beginning of WWC matches and I'd be shocked if more than a few minutes of this were missing. This is 25 minutes of match and a bit more with the post-match and I don't really think the body was clipped up much, if at all. This is already nominated off of youtube, but watching this here I think its' the same version and should make the set.

 

Abdullah The Butcher v. Victor Jovica - Chain Match Another one I nominated off of youtube. This starts with Abby still wearing the hood on his head and it looks like the ref has just locked them up together. Over 12 minutes are shown plus the post-match Abby beatdown and I didn't really notice any clips of note on youtube when I watched it. This is the same version as from youtube and should easily make the set. Again calling this clipped is stretching the definition of that term, as it is barely JIP from what I can tell.

 

Invader 3 v. Manny I've already seen

Barbed Wire Match: Carlos Colon vs. Jos LeDuc (February 1986) -

 

This was a very good, very bloody war. LeDuc kinda looks like one of the old school workers in North Georgia-East Tennessee indies who literally only worked to bleed for ten or fifteen minutes and put over a "rising star." I saw Gypsy Joe do that a few times when I was a kid here in Chatt. The start of this is great with Colon hitting LeDuc into the barbed wire. The part where he rips his shirt off and shoves his exposed body into the wire is awesome. What really stands out about this match is LeDuc's heat section where Colon is getting mutilated by the wire. The visual with the wire ripping up Colon's gums was vile as hell. Then we get this disturbing shot of Colon drooling blood out of his mouth like an overly graphic horror film. Colon's comeback is nice because he gets a payback spot with a low blow similar to how LeDuc took control. Colon sends LeDuc into the barbed wire a few more times then sets up the for the figure four before taking it home with the submission. Overall, I think this is a SOLID nomination. It's got the appropriate violence to please the sickos and some of those visuals were one of kind.

 

Kamala vs. The Invader -

 

This was great. It's very short but so was Larry Z-Bockwinkel on the AWA set and I think this match smokes that one. The opening exchange is fucking awesome with both guys throwing hay-maker chops. Invader is wrestling hurt and has a bandage wrapped around his head but it quickly loosens and Kamala targets his forehead. Within a minute or so Invader is a bloody mess. I mean he looks like he painted himself red it's so bad. Kamala's chops almost never look that great but many of them did here as they connected several times on Invader's head. The spot of the match is Kamala licking Invader's bloodied head and slobbering everywhere afterwards. Man, this company is disturbing. Invader tries to comeback with chops of his own but he's too broken down and has lost too much blood. Kamala keeps at the cut and the ref stops the match due to blood loss. I don't think this is something that can be left off. For me, it's an EASY nomination. I loved the hell out of it.

 

Al Perez vs. Abdullah the Butcher -

 

One of the best things about PR is having guys like Al Perez and Abdullah the Butcher meet up on the ball field for a fight. That's the first thing we see here and it's totally absurd and awesome. Al Perez goes right after Abby and beats him down with a barrage of punches. They brawl around the ballpark then eventually hover back over to the ring. I loved the camerawork on Abby as he pulls out a fork to use. He catches Perez off guard with the fork and bloodies him. Abby jabs Perez with the fork a bunch of times then the damn ref calls for the bell. It's a shame because I think if this had gone five to six more minutes with Perez getting a comeback in this might have been a nomination. The post-match is great though with Abby launching Perez into the production truck then beating him with the ring bell. Perez gets up delirious and finds a chair wildly swinging it. Meanwhile, Abby is marching around the bases trolling fans who are tossing crumbled paper and God knows what else at him. The PR National Guard shows up to restore order then Abby disappears only to reappear with a 2X4 and challenging Perez and his chair. Abby whacks Perez with the 2X4 a few times and the refs hilariously use the chair as a shield from Abby's assault. Abby retreats then the ref with the chair threatens Abby with it as he disappears into the dugout. At least, it was a fun post-match. It would be cool if we get a bunch of EXTRAS with wild post-match shit like this.

 

Mike Davis Award Ceremony -

 

This has to be an EXTRA. Mike Davis gets a nasty cut from the picture frame cutting up his shoulder. And man are the Starrs scum. They attacked a man in front of his wife and even threw her into the mat.

 

Carlos Colon & The Invader vs. Abdullah the Butcher & "Big Cat" Ernie Ladd -

 

This was about 30 seconds of clips. Colon and Abby duke it out for a few seconds until Abby hits Colon with a metal steak knife/object for the win. We watch Colon get carried to the back on a gurney.

 

Hercules Ayala v. Carlos Colon - Texas Death Match -

 

This is really good and far from being hampered by clipping. I think we may have missed Ayala bleeding first but I very seriously doubt we missed enough to put this to the side. The brawling in the ballpark was awesome and I loved the use of the table. Ayala's bump into it was insane. They go back to the ring and Ayala works over Colon's leg and puts in the figure four. I love these figure four spots as they are huge deal in PR. They are always exciting. Colon breaks out of the hold low blows Ayala. He takes control and works over Ayala's leg. Colon locks in the figure four and gets a pin with it. Ayala barely makes it up in time for the ten count and the match continues. Colon stays on the leg and hits a great headbutt sending Ayala to the floor. Chicky Starr has been great as the baseball manager for Ayala here jawing with the ref etc. and gives Ayala brass knuckles. I thought it was silly that they did this behind the ref's back because the ref shouldn't give a shit but whatever. Ayala uses the brass knuckles and bloodies Colon. He beats Colon to a violent pulp and we get one great hope spot from a low blow by Colon. The wild swinging later on between both was awesome and the last few minutes are gruesome with Colon drowning in his own blood. The ref calls for a stoppage due to the blood loss which is controversial because of the match rules. Yeah, no way in hell is this simply clipped. From what I've seen, this has to go on. Ultimately, I'd call it a SOLID nomination.

 

Abdullah The Butcher v. Victor Jovica - Chain Match -

 

I liked this a lot. I'm not even sure how much was really clipped. All we might have missed is the chain being locked on. Abby bloodies Jovica right away with the chain. Jovica makes a comeback on the ropes with these awesome rib punches and then Abby becomes a bloody mess not long after. I loved the spot where Jovica was just endlessly whipping this bloodied fat man wearing pointed shoes with a chain. My favorite cut off was Abby kicking Jovica hard in the lower abdomen during a four corner sequence. I thought both guys sold really well for this and the finish was done especially well with Abby taking a great tumble on the between the legs tug. This also seems to be a huge win for Jovica as Hugo keeps pointing out that this match is huge for Jovica and beating a guy like Abby would improve his stock tremendously. For nomination purposes, I'll give this a SOLID nomination although I think it can be argued as an EASY nomination.

 

Invader III vs. Manny Fernandez -

 

Well, this was fucking nuts. Manny stooged for a few minutes then we got an extended side headlock from Invader 3. Invader 3 missed a cross body from the second rope then Manny started kneeing him in the chest and stomach. Manny then goes to the top rope and fucking crushed Invader 3 with a top rope knee drop. Then fucking Invader 3 projectile vomits blood all over the place and Manny continues to give him the top rope knee drop until other faces run him off. Invader 3 is taken to a hospital and is spewing out blood and is all covered in it and shit. This was sickening. EXTRA

I actually acquired a disc called Blood in the Ring. Turns out its the Spanish version of this release. It's hosted by Hugo and Chicky. It has these matches in the original Spanish audio for the most part. It even has Hugo grilling Chicky on the commentary when they are showing Mike Davis being stitched up.
