May 18, 201213 yr comment_5502872 Sounds like an interesting movie. I actually randomly stumbled upon that La Lutte movie mentioned in the article years and years ago on a Canadian cable channel one night. Missed the beginning and never caught the title, and had totally forgotten about it until today, so that's cool. What do you guys think of The Masked Man articles on Grantland? I've read most of them and some are very good, but I sometimes feel he pushes his whole "Reality Era" agenda a bit too much and gives WWE credit for coming up with meta-type narratives that just aren't there.
May 19, 201213 yr comment_5502893 You know people get the idea of fictional realities and context with men flying and shooting lasers out of their eyes.* But somehow with pro wrestling, the idea of a fictional context flies over their heads. A lot of the time it seems like people who do it for a living don't get it. I watch a movie and I don't question why actor A is acting like it is real. I understand he is pretending. Now the usual answer to this is "Well that's different. Pro wrestling is trying to trick people into thinking its real." I find that asinine, but why would expect a conman to expose himself mid con. I could not get past the first paragraph of that article. *I love super heroes. So it is by no means a dig.
May 19, 201213 yr comment_5502907 I recommend everyone watch Fake It So Real. My favorite part is where they talk to a guy who wants to train with them. It's full of great lines but the best is at the end where the main guy interviewing him says "It's a respect thing that we want. Respect out ring because...in a better world this is where we'd make our living."
