Posted May 21, 201213 yr comment_5503200 AWA World Tag Titles: The Sheiks (Crusher Blackwell & Ken Patera) © vs. Da Crusher & Greg Gagne (3/15/84) Gagne starts off here and gets some nice basic matwork on Patera while Crusher tries and fails to hold off Blackwell from attacking him. Gagne eats a big elbow from Blackwell and the champs take control of him with Blackwell using his strength and size to weaken Gagne. Greg is fiery though and comes back with a nice armdrag on Blackwell who bumps hard for before tagging in Crusher where the pace now becomes frenzied as the Crushers go to the floor and Da Crusher just mauls the champs even using the ringsteps on Blackwell which doesn't get a DQ and I loved that. Blackwell is taking all kinds of punishment here from Crusher and Gagne on the apron getting his shots in. Da Crusher is slow as shit but his offense is credible and that's all that matters. Gagne gets the tag and hits a nice splash off the top rope for a nearfall on Blackwell who is just so great here with his selling. Gagne would get sent to the floor though where Patera tried to post him but that failed and Crusher posted him instead with Greg getting shots in on Adnan. Greg goes back to work on Blackwell who is pinballing around so Patera comes back in only for Crusher to send him packing but as this happened, Adnan clocked Greg with his cast and Blackwell would cover for the win. This was a lot of fun as Blackwell was kingsized in his bumping here and Greg looked really solid in everything he did. I'm pushing this forward as a nomination.
May 21, 201213 yr comment_5503211 Edit: I watched this again because it's also on youtube, and while I could see it as an EXTRA due to the strength of Blackwell's bumping performance and it being another chapter in the Sheiks saga, I can't justify it as a match. It is literally nine minutes of the heels - particularly Blackwell - getting their ass kicked and then one cast shot leading to the finish win for them. There is nothing that even borders on a heat section and while Blackwell is awesome in this, he's basically a glorified squash worker in it as the heels get almost no offense at all. Too one sided for my blood.
May 26, 201213 yr comment_5504030 Crusher Blackwell & Ken Patera vs. Da Crusher & Greg Gagne 3/15/84 (AJ Classics 103) - Loved Patera showing his strength early on but the best matchup was Gagne-Blackwell. I could do without the Crusher and the attempts of Badass Blackwell and Patera having to sell for him. If we have to have a Crusher match on the set, I can see this on but I keep thinking of how much better this match would be if Jimmy Snuka was Gagne’s partner. Low level nomination and that is all due to Gagne and Blackwell.
