Posted May 27, 201213 yr comment_5504201 Was talking to Loss about Cena and Lesnar going on the ballot this year among other things so I figured I'd start a thread. Based on the information we have from last year (who got in, who dropped off, and who Dave announced as being added for 2012 with reasonable guesses as to categorization) without any knowledge of if Dave was convinced to add more candidates (like Jimmy Hart) since the HOF issue came out, the list of candidates should look something like this: HISTORICAL PERFORMERS ERA CANDIDATES Gene & Ole Anderson The Masked Assassins (Jody Hamilton & Tom Renesto) Johnny Barend Red Bastien Pepper Gomez Dick Hutton Hans Schmidt Kinji Shibuya Wilbur Snyder John Tolos Enrique Torres Kurt & Karl Von Brauner w/Saul Weingeroff Tim "Mr. Wrestling" Woods MODERN PERFORMERS ERA CANDIDATES Batista John Cena Edge Owen Hart Curt Hennig Ivan Koloff Brock Lesnar Fabulous Moolah Pedro Morales Dick Murdoch Rock & Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) Buddy Rose Sgt. Slaughter Jimmy Snuka Sting Mr. Wrestling II JAPAN CANDIDATES George Gordienko Gran Hamada Volk Han Masahiko Kimura Seiji Sakaguchi Kensuke Sasaki Mike & Ben Sharpe Kiyoshi Tamura Hiroshi Tanahashi MEXICO CANDIDATES Perro Aguayo Jr. Atlantis Cien Caras Karloff Lagarde Blue Panther L.A. Park Huracan Ramirez Vampiro Villano III Dr. Wagner Jr. Dr. Wagner Sr. EUROPE CANDIDATES Big Daddy Henri DeGlane Horst Hoffman Mick McManus Kendo Nagasaki Jackie Pallo Rollerball Mark Rocco Johnny Saint AUSTRALIA/PACIFIC/PUERTO RICO CANDIDATES Spyros Arion Carlos Colon Domenic DeNucci Mark Lewin Mario Milano NON-WRESTLERS Lou Albano Bill Apter Jim Crockett Jr. Gary Hart Jerry Jarrett Gorilla Monsoon Dr. Alfonso Morales Don Owen Jesse Ventura
May 27, 201213 yr comment_5504203 The rules about how many people you can vote for always confuse me so much that I'll just list everyone that I think is HOF worthy from the ballot this time around. Hans Schmidt John Cena Rock & Roll Express Buddy Rose Gran Hamada Cien Caras Bill Apter Jerry Jarrett Don Owen I would also listen to cases for Volk Han, Kiyoshi Tamura, Atlantis, Blue Panther, Villano III and Johnny Saint.
May 27, 201213 yr Author comment_5504204 A ballot can have up to 10 wrestlers and unlimited non-wrestlers.
May 27, 201213 yr comment_5504220 Goddammit Buddy has no right to be put aside again this year. I'll be livid if he doesn't make it.
May 28, 201213 yr comment_5504247 Put aside? Hell this is the first time Buddy has even been on the ballot and every voter I've seen comment on him has been very dismissive to the point where they won't even entertain the notion that he has a serious argument. I'll have more to say on this as we get closer, but I agree with everyone on Loss list.
May 28, 201213 yr comment_5504253 McManus and Pallo should be in, and since the threshold has been lowered so far for other countries most of the luchadores should be in as well.
May 28, 201213 yr comment_5504264 I will say this. I am not a fan of anyone getting in on work alone. But if someone like Benoit gets in and sets that precedent there is no real argument against Blue Panther.
May 28, 201213 yr comment_5504316 If Sting would've worked Taker at Mania last year or any other year recently, he would've gotten in already.
May 28, 201213 yr comment_5504357 I don't see how you can say "wrestling ability" is in any way important either then, if it doesn't translate into money. "Wrestling ability" is AS ARBITRARY a benchmark as overness. IF wrestling ability is a criterion, I don't think that being massively over should be overlooked either. If wrestling ability is not important, and it's just about being a draw, fair enough. Again, we're not arguing objective truth here. We're arguing whether or not he meets certain criteria to get him into a certain hall of fame. There are normative elements here.
May 28, 201213 yr comment_5504378 Hans Schmidt died yesterday. My guess is that will greatly enhance his chances of getting in this year. He almost got in last year (and I think the year before) and I had thought this year might be a tough go because of the emergence of Cena/Lesnar on the ballot. Now I think he'll likely get the RIP bump.
May 28, 201213 yr Author comment_5504395 To be fair, it's not just sympathy votes for death that got guys like Wahoo and Iaukea in. Dave writing bios that made great cases for them contributed just as much, if not more.
May 28, 201213 yr comment_5504396 Didn't both guys show up on the ballot for the first time the years they died?
May 28, 201213 yr comment_5504467 Yeah, Hans Schmidt really should've been in the Hall of Fame already.
May 29, 201213 yr Author comment_5504471 Didn't both guys show up on the ballot for the first time the years they died?Wahoo was on the ballot for years and considered a Murdoch-esque gatekeeper beforehand. Looks like you're right about Curtis though, he went on as part of the addition of Australia/Asia Pacific/Atlantic Ocean Pacific.
May 29, 201213 yr comment_5504493 I will say this. I am not a fan of anyone getting in on work alone. But if someone like Benoit gets in and sets that precedent there is no real argument against Blue Panther. The same can be said for Buddy Rose and Dick Murdoch. In fact, I am starting the Goodhelmet Wrestling Hall of Fame. First three inductions.... Dick Murdoch, Buddy Rose and El Dandy Non-wrestler - Jimmy Hart That's enough for now.
May 29, 201213 yr comment_5504498 Will you are going to be recruited for the Buddy Rose HoF show when we get closer to balloting time. Devon will also be on the panel
May 29, 201213 yr comment_5504501 Sounds good. I am through with Meltzer though. It is time for a new one with different criteria. First criteria... did you kill your child? If so, no admission. If you are in and then kill your kid... you were never in.

If you are in and then kill your kid... you were never in. I'm claiming the first annual Goodhelmet Pro Wrestling Hall Of Fame Ceremony for WHATAMANOOVER!

Not Ivan Koloff?
May 29, 201213 yr comment_5504554 Personally I would vote for Koloff as well. And I think Carlos Colon is one of the best five guys on the ballot and an unbelievably obvious pick
May 31, 201213 yr comment_5504870 There should be a Goodhelmet HOF with a Comp made for the best of the (5?) candidates that go in each year... Would be cool
June 1, 201213 yr comment_5505004 I've got an ongoing WWE Mock Hall of Fame going at another board and it's kind of fun. If a group of a dozen or so people did a mock Observer (or really just pro wrestling) Hall of Fame, it'd be an interesting read. Might be a bit enlightening too.
July 3, 201213 yr comment_5508879 The Masked Assassins (Jody Hamilton & Tom Renesto) Does anyone know of any footage of Renesto? I know he has a rep as being great on the mic, but was he a good worker too? Anyone ever seen the original Assassins in a match?
