Posted June 4, 201213 yr comment_5505536 Clips of the finish from the last match on Disc 1. Hercules Ayala v. Steve Strong Think about what a match like this would look like. That's about what it looks like. To be fair Floyd Creatchman is kind of funny as a second. Tiger Jackson v. Puncho Boy This is the Musgrave/goodhelmet invitational as midgets are both close to their hearts. We have ass biting in the first couple of minutes and then they go into a barrage of stuff, some comedy and some cool spots. I have a rule that says every midget match should have a monkey flip and this has one, plus a cool head stand senton thing from Jackson. Nice dropkick from Tiger but they are full blown in the heel midget feuding with ref routine and even though it's a detriment to the flow of the match it's pretty entertaining. Match kind of grinds to a halt here for a bit before Puncho Boy takes over. Tiger wins with a sunset flip and then does a gymnastics routine. Eh. This was okay, but as midget matches go this felt pretty low end. Dan Kroffat v. Kendo Nagasaki JIP shortly after the intros but I don't think much is missing. Kendo hits a fucking insane jumping piledriver early and then just chucks Kroffat to the floor with Dan taking a bump into the first row. Really a couple of awesome spots but totally misplaced and over the top at the same time. Nagasaki ends up working a cross armbreaker/nervehold combo which is unusual to say the least. Man this is really slow. Kroffat eventually makes a run but dives right into a misting from Kendo. With better pacing this might have been a good match, but as it was it was disappointing. Creatchman promo was amusing though Abdullah The Butcher/Steve Strong v. Brusier Brody/Hercules Ayala Fuck the face team here is absurd. They go right after Steve Strong who has a hurt leg with Floyd Creatchman leaping around like a lunatic on the apron. Abby comes in and goes to work on Ayala, but Brody leaps off the top with a double axe and Abby goes on the defensive. Man Abby as face in peril is fucking bizarre and Brody sucks cock working a heel control segment. Abby hulking up on Ayala was fucking awesome though. This ends up in chaos with Steve Strong’s leg getting attacked, Strong beating people with a board, et. With a hot crowd this actually might have been fun, but the crowd was lukewarm. Kendo Nagasaki v. Leo Burke Hey this could be fun. Leo sells the fuck out of an early kick like he’s got appendicitis or something. He comes back with some really sharp armdraggy offense that looks so surprising coming from a guy with Leo’s look. Nagasaki back in and takes Leo down with a floatover arm bar. I actually really like the way Leo works this underneath as Nagasaki is like a less charismatic Cookie from the Bozo The Clown show and really needs someone like Burke who will actually sell and work the hold for him. Leo gets chunked to the floor and takes a NASTY shot with a chair to the back. Leo makes a big babyface comeback and has Nagasaki reeling but runs into a thrust kick. This was fun, but Nagasaki kind of sucks. Would like to have seen Leo with a better opponent. Armand Rougeau v. Richard Charland This is fisticuffs at the bell and Charland actually bleeds off of punches which I kinda marked out for. Oh man Rougeau’s selling of the nut shot was fucking classic. This is slow moving, but I like the way Armand is selling at least. Charland looks fucking gassed moving around but is such a shit head that it almost works as a heel tactic. He goes up top and Rougeau gets his knees up off a huge splash and it looks nasty as fuck. Seriously a lunatic spot considering the size of Charland. Rougeau makes his run and locks on a sleeper but Charland makes it to the ropes and leans forward spilling them both to the floor. Ref throws this out. This got really good toward the very end and I liked the opening, but the meat was lacking. Chuck Simms/Gilles The Fish Poisson/Rocky Delassera v. Gino Brito Jr./Tony Gatillo/Neil Guay JIP. Heels are in control. What a fucking motley crew of randoms this is. Gatillo is the FIP and the heels do a pretty good job cutting off the ring on him. I really like Simms as he works hard, has pretty good offense and is good for a bump when it is needed. Cool cut off on the hot tag with Simms just collapsing on Gatillo at the last second. Holy fuck Gilles is awful, but the other heels do a really good job working around that and this was structured well. Guay gets the hot tag and is as much a house of fire as he can be. Gilles actually hits a diving knee to Gatillo’s throat when he tags back in which was shocking. Delssara goes up top and misses one and then the Hangman comes in briefly which sets up Brito Jr who locks on a figure four. Things fall apart here and the match gets thrown out. This is better than some of the lower end nominations for the AWA set…maybe. Leo Burke v. Tony Gatillo There is a discussion of anti-Italian racism in the commentary booth. Leo hits a really sick looking knee drop right to Gatillo’s face. Man Burke throws some sick forearms too. Man Gatillo is green as fuck. Burke looked good again but nowhere near enough for a nomination. Battle Royal Spoiler had a pretty cool teased elimination spot. Poisson and Guay scare off at one point and it is the most pathetic thing I’ve ever seen. At one point Leo Burke is on the floor hitting someone in the balls. Spoiler takes a ludicrous bump to exit. Simms ends up winning after semi-double crossing Burke. Simms as poor man’s Doug Somers is pretty great. Armand Rougeau/Dan Kroffat v. Kendo Nagasaki/Richard Charland JIP but I don’t think much is missing. Charland hits this weird diving chop block type of thing to the leg of Kroffat. Weird spot as they do this thing where they have him in a front face lock and the other one is pulling his legs behind the refs back. Charland goes for a dropkick but Kroffat holds the ropes and he misses and they do a second tag behind the refs back spot. The structure of this is good and the way they got a cheap kendo stick shot in was actually believable and effective. Laughed out loud at the double bow spot with Charland and Kendo. Yet another missed tag after the ref was busy with Kendo. Close up of Charland biting Kroffat’s nose and spitting the contents into the crowd. Kroaffat with a near fall on a sunset flip but it’s broken up and the ref misses a tag but sort of relent and lets Armand come in. Big hot run from Rougeau, but the ref gets bumped. Charland this a jumping piledriver but the ref comes to late. Kroffat hits a dropkick and Armand hits a cradle for a three. This was enjoyable enough to pass through but not a great match by any means. Hercules Ayala v. Abduallah The Butcher Ayala ambushes Abby with the belt at the bell and busts him open. Abby is totally out of it and Ayala is eating his Hep C and yakking it into the front row. Creatchman gets involved with his cane on Abby and a fan throws a beer at him which is pretty great. Abby makes his comeback with his foreign object and I admit I love the idea of babyface Abby stabbing dudes in the face as a hope spot. They spill to the floor and Abbyd starts decking Ayala with the belt and then a chair. Creatchman passes salt to Ayala but it ends up getting thrown in the refs eyes. Abby gets a hold of Creatchman’s cane and starts pasting people with it including choking Creatchman. At some point during it the ref throws this out. This is novel and got more fun as it went along. Clips of Abby v. Brody. This actually looks pretty vicious to the point where I wish it was complete and this is coming from someone who hates Brody. Chuck Simms v. Gino Brito Jr. The Pretty Boy goes straight to the cheap shot. Simms is convincing as the aggressive heel and you also buy him as the jackass fool when he misses the big leg drop. Simms takes back over again with cheap stuff and Brito makes his comeback with a fucking Saito suplex of all things. Brito goes to attack the leg to set up the figure-four. Brito locks it on but Simms grabs the bottom rope. Brito loses his cool and decks the ref and the match gets tossed. Decent little tv match Steve Strong promo. Yup. Bruiser Brody v. Abdullah The Butcher They do this weird circling thing and then lock straight up. Abby takes over and hits a couple of big running boots and starts gnawing on Abby’s head. At one point Abby is choking Brody through the ropes and Brody is almost dangling off the ground. Then Abby smacks him into the guardrail and chokes him on a table. Abby fucking crushes Floyd Creatchman with a rail shot and then beats him with a chair which allows Brody to take back over with stomps to Abby’s head. Brody hits a sick chairshot to Abby. Abby takes back over and Brody actually bumps for a shoulder tackle and takes an elbow drop from Abby which was semi-shocking. Holy shit, Bruiser Brody’s “crazy brother from an asylum” Buster hits the ring and all hell breaks loose. Fuck I mean I am not a fan of this match up, but this was better than the other one and I nominated it. Buster Brody/Richard Charland v. Steve Strong/Dan Kroffat Fuck who the hell is Buster Brody? Well his gimmick is fairly amusing. Kroffat is in peril here which leads to some fun shit, including a great spot where Kroffat flips through on a back body drop attempt and tries to hit a dropkick but Charland just hops out of the way. This is heavily clipped which is too bad because what is shown is actually the best match on this disc as it is well structured with some big spots and better than average heel work. Man fucking Charland is running through shit and taking big bumps and Creatchman is whipping Buster in the face on the floor but there is just too much editing here to merit it. Too bad.
