This is a sprint with both guys tearing into each other. Savage is flying around the ring both on offense and bumping. This is the kind of Savage match I loved on the Memphis set, where he feels like this out of control athlete moving at a different pace from everyone else, like watching early Alan Iverson. Piper is so demonstrative in the ring, and he isn't doing as much, but everything he does has such force. This really felt like an epic feud which never happened.
July 4, 201213 yr comment_5509051 Another match from the Piper babyface "retirement" tour. Tremendous match. If there are two guys in wrestling I buy in a balls to the wall sprint it is these two. Piper's three stooges eye poke gets me every time. Savage double axe to the floor being done in such a quick motion and Piper doing this tumbling sell for it was great. Piper's lunging knee lift looked vicious. Loved the backslide spot and the swirling noise from the handheld only added to the craziness. Also for a screwjob finish, this had a pretty great finish. This match could be a visual track to accompany a Swans song which is high praise coming from me.
July 7, 201213 yr comment_5509489 What a fucking blast. Phil said it perfectly in that these two guys have unreal charisma and are incredibly demonstrative. The pre-match was tremendous with Savage spitting at Piper and Piper doing the eye poke to start the match followed by him being a gentlemen and holding the ropes for Elizabeth. This just turned into a wild and out of control brawl. Piper's punches were awesome in this. The screwjob finish might have made this better too. Awesome match. EASY NOMINATION
May 22May 22 comment_6030248 EASY NOMINATION. Piper is the king of the 10 minutes and under match. Never a dull moment with the highlights mentioned above. I have to mention the Crockett level heat with every single move each guy performs. I'm selfish and want a feud with multiple matches. Randy Savage vs. Roddy Piper (Hamilton Ontario 12/13/86) (Watching on YouTube) - Randy Savage interview before the match - Roddy Piper interview before the match - Another Randy Savage interview. All EXTRAS if separate from the match on the drive. - Piper escorts Liz out of the ring after Piper unloaded on Savage. Savage with his robe still on and Piper does the bulldog. AWESOME! Piper strikes: throat thrust, eye bokes, punch into the corner. All awesome. Then he does a double handed choke and looks like a giant. This is so great. Savage comes back and hits the big axe handle to the outside. The entire crowd is chanting “Roddy” and Savage is still selling the damage. Every time Piper gets any offense (sunset flip, backslide, knee lift), the crowd erupts. Savage wants to leave but Piper brings him back. The crowd cannot contain themselves. Piper is the master of emotions, the master manipulator. Outside they brawl and Piper puts Savage on his shoulders, carries him up the stairs and dumps him right before the ten count. Genius finish. Piper beats up Savage who hightails it without the belt. Piper poses with the IC belt to send the people home happy. HIGHEST OF NOMINATIONS.
