Both guys take some big bumps, including Race missing a headbutt on floor, and Savage nuking his elbow on a missed elbow drop. Not a slam dunk pick, but the kind of thing folks would be excited to see on the set
July 4, 201213 yr comment_5509046 I liked this a good bit, probably more than Phil actually. Race's over the top bump is something I am a sucker for every time and it looked great here, as did his whiff job on the floor. This had a good pace and I really liked the teases down the stretch. A lot of WWF from this era has a by the numbers feel to it and this really felt like the exact opposite of a by the numbers match. Savage gave Race a lot to work with, really reacted and sold well for Harley, and then won with a roll up after missing the big elbow. Seemed like Savage wanted to have a memorable match and I think this fits that bill. On a set of 150 I think this is pretty close to a lock.
July 7, 201213 yr comment_5509561 I liked this okay and can see that it is a dream match of sorts. The pacing was good and Harley's over the top bumping is always nice. Harley's offense was also good here as well. I thought the finish was really good with Savage missing the elbow and stealing it with a reverse roll up. Harley was pretty great in his selling and bumping. Savage was good but I always think Savage is good during this time period for the most part. LOW END NOMINATION
June 11Jun 11 comment_6031161 Randy Savage vs. Harley Race (Philly 9/18/87) - Almost immediately, Savage hooks in a sleeper which I thought was a weird way to start a match. Then you realize it was so he could do a clothesline on the ropes and Race could bump to the floor lol. Race is still bumping like a madman at his age. He takes an absolutely NUTS headbutt to the concrete when Macho moves out of the way. Race bleeds and Macho starts biting the cut. Nice. Race takes his bloody head and gives Macho a headbutt to turn the tide. He follows with his nasty piledriver. Two count. Belly to belly. Two count. Macho reverses a suplex and the crowd is rallying around him. Macho and Race go back and forth in the stretch run. Big falling headbutt, Macho axe handle. Missed flying elbow. Another suplex attempt turns into an O’Connor roll win for Macho. This was really fun and makes me look forward to more matches between these guys. SOLID NOMINATION for the match. STRONG NOMINATION for the crazy headbutt on the concrete.
