I looked pretty extensively to find any other possible televised Hogan-Rude matches during this time period and I think this is the only one. This match is successful in the "curiosity" and "interesting" department. I could see someone liking this enough to nominate it. I'm on the edge with this because there was some great stuff in it. The arm wrestling challenge by Heenan in the pre-match was great claiming Rude was an arm wrestling champion. In an awesome moment, Rude got down on the mat and actually challenged Hulk to an arm wrestling contest. Hulk got down there with him and the ref hilariously went along with it as the moderator. Hulk was losing but ended up crushing Rude and smashing his hand on the mat a few times. They traded some decent arm work and Hogan executed a nice suplex. Rude took a great bump over the ropes and to the floor as well. Rude got into his head segment in a tremendous fashion. He found a wooden chair at ringside and BRUTALLY nailed Hogan in the head unprotected with the seat corner. Rude locked in a sleeper hold for a while which was a bit basic but there was a nice cutoff spot when Hulk broke out of it where Rude just kicked an incoming Hulk square in the chest. Rude got in his back breaker finisher and thought Hulk submitted so he released the hold. Hulk did his thing but did give Rude a nasty clothesline in the corner during his comeback. Apparently, in the post-match Dibiase bloodies Hogan because it's mentioned on Graham's site. I can't wait to see that when the I get a hold of the tape. It might make this a little better. This had a lot of entertaining stuff in it that I liked and it's a bit of a novelty. LOW END NOMINATION

The big moments in this were pretty great. Liked Bobby's bump, the arm wrestling bullshit, Rude crushing Hogan with the chair (really sick shot), the back kick/backbreaker spot and a few other things a lot. Having said that Rude's offense felt flat and this was a case where the Hogan comeback felt really quick. You almost wanted to see Rude kick out of something before eating the leg drop. Pretty good match, but not high end for either guy.

Hulk Hogan vs. Rick Rude (Boston 1/9/88)
-    They do the Rik Rude arm-wrestling contest in the middle of the ring and I always mark out for this spot. Rude gets pushed around and has to regroup. Inside, Rude takes over with an arm bar. Hogan misses an elbow and Rude starts beating him up. Then Jimmy Hart interferes so Hogan chases him but Rude is waiting for him when he comes back in and Hogan is in trouble. Now, Rude locks in his headlock. He eventually hooks in the Argentine back breaker and then the flying punch off the top rope. Great stuff. Hogan hulks up. Body slam, leg drop. Three count. I am starting to hate Hogan matches where we get the formula come back and nothing before mattered. I hate it.
