Pat Patterson vs. Bob Orton Jr. (9/18/82)

This had a good start as Patterson got a really quick nearfall on an O'Connor Roll that sent Orton to the floor to recover. Patterson gets a sunset flip for a nearfall and Orton decides to come back with punches but Patterson would survive the flurry and came back with punches of his own while Orton was laying on the top rope. Patterson would then lock on the figure-four leglock and Orton quickly gets to the ropes to break free. Patterson doesn't quit though and wraps Orton's left leg across the ringpost a couple of times as the fans go crazy. Orton would catch Patterson though with a knee in the gut and used it to get the advantage then followed up with kneedrops to Patterson's upper body with the last one hurting himself. Orton then went for a Superplex but Patterson blocked it although he ate a press slam for his trouble. There would be a big collision sending Pat to the floor and he would get on the apron with a sunset flip back into the ring to get the win. I loved Orton's selling here and he was fun with his hybrid Race/Terry Funk style of working. Patterson was fun running around the ring trying to use cradles to put away Orton. Good punches here by both guys and this was worked like a true grudge match as it was an all-action sprint not a bunch of matwork. Solid nomination.

I liked this, but didn't love it. It was cool to see Paterson this good, this late in his career and my favorite part of this was his spitting all over himself sell job of aces elbow shots. I also liked the spots around the superplex attempt. Definitely all action and the flash pin was well set up and fun, but I don't think this match is going to stand out much at all amidst what is likely to be 250 plus nominations.

PAT PATTERSON vs BOB ORTON JR. (09/18/1982; WWF Philadelphia Spectrum; 00:12:07)
-    Pat hits a quick O’Connor Roll to excite the crowd and make Orton rethink things. Then he gets a near fall with a sunset flip. Bob tries to come back but Pat whips him to the corner post and then goes on the apron and starts punching him in the face. He pulls him inside and hooks the figure 4 but Bob reaches the ropes. Pat doesn’t let Bob rest. He pulls his legs and crotches him in the corner. Inside, Bob ducks and gets a fist to the face to turn the tide. Bob methodically attacks Pat. Knee and fist to the face. He drops another knee and sells the bum leg. Bob sets him up for the superplex. He gets blocked but does slam Pat off the top rope. A noggin knocker does send Pat outside. Bob tries to knock Pat off the apron but Pat gets a sunset flip for three. I thought this was a blast and give it a STRONG NOMINATON as a non-stop, logical sprint.
