I thought Hogan did a really good job of selling in this match and making Harley's offense seem very effective. Harley takes a couple of wild bumps to the floor including an insane turnbuckle bump. Harley drives some nasty knees into Hulk's face and goes for a suplex. Hulk reverses it and does his own suplex but still sells the effects of Harley's knee barrage and the suplex itself. They brawled on the floor for a minute and Harley missed a headbutt and smashed his head on the concrete in a sickening spot. There was a really good sleeper spot with Harley really wrenching it in. The finishing run ruled with Hulk punching the hell out of Harley and Harley headbutting the shit out of Hulk. Harley misses a second rope headbutt which looks painful as hell and Hulk rolls him up for the win. I thought that was a great finish and Hulk still sold the effects of the match. The post-match was great with Harley challenging Hulk to a fight and Hulk giving some of his best punches ever. Hercules helps Harley though with his chain and Hulk gets choked viciously with the chain but fights back in the end. I liked this a good bit and can see this being on a set.
June 21Jun 21 comment_6031568 Hulk Hogan vs. Harley Race (Philly 5/9/87) Similar beats as the Boston match, but some differences are Race takes an over the turnbuckle bump to the floor, Race missed a diving headbutt on the arena floor (instead of the piledriver reversal), and the chinlock sequence is shorter. Same finish as the Boston match, only Hogan is just slightly cut and not really bleeding before the match is over. We also get the post match posturing but with Race instead picking up the microphone and challenging Hogan to fight now (which they do). Hercules shows up and attacks Hogan from behind with a chain. Hercules and Race wrap the chain around Hogan’s neck and choke Hogan. Hulk makes his own save and chases off the heels with the chain. Solid to strong nomination and if I’m comparing them so far, Hogan’s bleeding tips it slightly in Boston’s favor, although this one had some differences in some of the spots in the middle portion and the post match was different as well. Still have the MSG match to go.
July 4Jul 4 comment_6032192 The first few minutes are nearly identical to Boston. The rest of the match is pretty different outside of the same finish. Harley goes on a bigger bumping rampage here. Hogan nearly wins in the middle but misses an elbow drop when it seemed he'd go for the legdrop. I wish he had missed the leg, but that's a minor complaint. I LOVE Harley cutting off Hogan's four corner turnbuckle smash with a headbutt. Fucking awesome. The post-match is really fun with Harley getting on the house mic & yelling at Hogan to "Put that goddamn belt down" & fight him. This leads to a sneak attack from Hercules where he & Harley double team Hogan & choke him with Herc's chain in an insane visual. Hogan fights out of it & stands tall. He should've been left for dead here too. This is very good, but not quite at the level of Boston. I did love how different a large portion of the body of this is from Boston. STRONG NOMINATION
August 31Aug 31 comment_6033946 Hulk Hogan vs. Harley Race (Philly 5/9/87) This is better executed than Boston but the atmosphere, post-match and the Boston great finish all trump this one. Harley takes an extra big bump with 2 over the top drops. However, the finish was the same without the wild blood. Without the Boston match, this would go on. With Boston, this is such a letdown in comparison. No vote.
