Slaughter gets in some offense too, including a cool counter of a leglock into a cobra clutch. Andre is really agile in 81, he just kills Slaughter with a running tope in the corner. There is another great moment where he snatches Slaughter out of mid air with a bear hug. Finish was Slaughter pulling the ref in front of Andre and getting DQ'ed which was lame. Still a blast to watch
July 8, 201213 yr comment_5509622 I had fun watching this match but it was more of a fun match than a great Top 150 match. The bad finish would hurt it in voting and I don't know if it will make the final cut. We have seen great, classic performances from Andre in this period of time so I have hope that his WWF classic exists but it isn't this match. Another no vote.
February 26, 201312 yr comment_5536950 I'm with Will on this one. It is a fun match, and their is a lot to like in it. The pre match stuff with Slaughter was great. Slaughter's bumps were great. Andre incorporating his schtick in the bout was great. Andre's strikes are really good and sold well by Slaughter. I think these guys are capableable of reaching an Andre/ Hansen level match from NJ. Hopefully these guys get a few more tries for us.
June 8, 201510 yr comment_5673943 Andre the Giant vs. Sgt. Slaughter (3/16/81)This isn't long before the Andre injury that would change his career and he moves around so good here with Slaughter being awesome at bumping and selling for him. Sarge getting the Cobra Clutch on Andre as he had him in a leglock was a cool touch and made sense that he had to wait until Andre was grounded to lock it on. Andre powered out of it though and used a headbutt/suplex to take Sarge down but hurt himself in the process. Sarge got some offense in but Andre was just taking it to him until Sarge pulled Dick Kroll into him as a shield taking abuse from Andre prompting a DQ. This was a fun ass match but the finish sucked and killed any chance of this being a nomination.
May 27May 27 comment_6030427 Slaughter v Andre 3/16/81 SOLID NOMINATION. Sarge bumps big for all of Andres signature spots. The sight of Andre on his knees being only a tad shorter than Sarge attempting to put on the Camel Clutch was a sight to behold. Sarge keeps the pressure on but gets caught on the top rope for the huge slam. Wild ending and this was fun enough to move forward. Solid Nomination. I liked this the 2nd time around. Time to revisit.
