This is not a great match, but it is very good and gives you exactly what you want from this combination of teams as you get stereotype schtick, some big spots, and some brutal unprofessionalism rolled into a well structured package. All the early rope running/double teams spots from the Islanders ruled, especially Haku blasting a Moondog with a headbutt to the face off the ropes. Tama took a huge bump to set up the heat section and the Dogs hit some really nasty stuff including a clothesline he ran right through and a Rex elbow drop that looked like it was deliberately for the balls. Finish came quick off the hot tag, but it worked well and Tama has a really good looking splash. Extremely fun match.
July 8, 201213 yr comment_5509660 Yeah this is the battle of teams who are better then the Hearts and Bulldogs and no one knew. Moondogs bring the nasty again and Tama and Haku hit back. Not something which blows you away, but well executed violent tag wrestling which I really enjoyed. COSIGN
June 1Jun 1 comment_6030632 Moondogs vs. Islanders (MSG 9/22/86) - Early on, both teams working hard. Haku almost didn’t clear a leap frog on Culley, That was scary. He responds with a shoot headbutt to Culley’s face. The Islanders take control and keep things moving. Tama falls out over the top rope and the Moondogs take over. This has been hot so far. Tama gets abused and Rex executes a beautiful suplex into the ring for a near fall. He then gets killed by a Rex clothesline. Tama getting destroyed. A thumb to the eye stops the comeback. Ref misses the tag and 2nd tag match in a row that happens. You can tell Culley was a Shadow. Just good at cheating and being a heel. Tama teases a comeback when a headbutt doesn’t phase him but a Manhattan drop and double lariat drop him. Rex thinks he is a Samoan with his 2nd rope splash but hits knees. Haku’s hot tag is awesome. He is destroying the MOondogs with a shoot Bomber to Culley’s head followed by a m,ean back elbow for a near fall. He really doesn’t like Rex haha. He tags Tama for the Superfly splash and Islander win. I think I liked this one as much, if not more, than the Hart Foundation match. STRONG NOMINATION.
