Posted July 15, 201213 yr comment_5510215 This is a great way to start in with the Calgary footage as Makhan Singh is in the ring cutting an "I'm sorry" promo about the Special Olympics. Apparently he had called another wrestler a "retard" or something similar on the show recently and so this was his way of making it right with the huge mentally handicapped audience that was a part of Stampede shows (only half kidding). Corporal Kirchner promo. Johnny Smith v. Mr. Hito JIP at nine minutes. Pretty boring match with bad VQ. But I did like the finish. Holy fuck they go to a pre-tape which is Jason The Terrible and Zodiac cutting a promo with a strange echo behind them and moving solar system projection over them. WTF this is ridiculous. Bruce Hart, Pillman and Benoit cut an anti-Karachi Vice promo. Benoit manages to avoid killing any children. Corporal Kirchner v. Goldie Rogers Quick squash followed by a post-match promo. Bad News Allen shows up and talks trash. Bad News Allen promo on Kirchner. This was a pretty good promo and Allen's outfit is awesome. Makhan Singh/Jerry Morrow v. Hiro Hase/Vietcong Express 2 JIP at about fifteen minutes. This was okay, at times pretty fun, but fuck you wish these matches even bordered on being complete. Hase does lots of fun stuff in this, but there isn't enough meat. I pray to god some of these discs include the TSN shows that allegedly included full matches. Another promo with Pillman hyping his bandana and putting over Corporal Kirchner Karachi Vice promo. Makhan's gear is fucking awesome. Chris Benoit/Brian Pillman/Bruce Hart v. Jason The Terrible/Zodiac/Gama (Elimination Tag) Pillman was green here, but still a fun to watch and exciting offensive wrestler. Not everything he hit was executed perfectly but the stuff that was looked really great and you could tell he had major star potential. So strange to see Benoit looking semi-normal and I have to admit he had a really great looking dropkick and victory roll spot. Bruce had a nice flying elbow, but my god did the babies eat the heels alive for a huge chunk of this. Fucking stupid ass clip as we jump ahead to Bruce in peril by himself v. Gama/Jason. Just bullshit. Anyhow I was happy to see the young Pillman footage, but this wasn't even a well clipped match. Karachi Vice promo Brian Pillman/Bruce Hart/Hase promo Zodiac v. Mr. Hito JIP at about five minutes. Basically just a finish. Karachi Vice promo. So far the best of this DVD by far is Makhan Singh on the mic. Gotta admit the guy could talk. Kirchner promo Makhan Singh/Jerry Morrow v. Chris Benoit/Biff Wellington JIP. Missed the early time call here so I don't know how much is missing. Benoit was already taking major impact bumps at this point in his career and they isolate him an work him over. I have to say it is hard to say "Benoit played the face in peril role well" even if it is technically true. Singh was a solid wrestler with some hurty offense, it's a shame almost all of the Stampede from this era is so chopped up because I suspect he would look great if we had the full picture. Man this was like a heel offensive showcase as they immediately cut off Wellington and take him to task. Morrow has good offense. Fuck this about 2/3's of a match but it was a glorified squash (albeit a fairly entertaining one). Owen Hart promo. He's back in the territory. Kirchner promo. Jacques/Gilles Des Fosses v. Badd Company Okay the opening of this kind of ruled as the evil French Canadians ambush BC, who are still in their gear, so Bruce and Brian run through spots with their jackets and sunglasses on. Pillman hits a sick flip splash early on also. Bruce's diving knee looked violent as hell. Fuck Badd Company were a really great offensive team, even if they are just eating these fucking jobbers for breakfast. Fun squash. Post-match promo with Brian Pillman's mom in the ring Makhan Singh calls his valet a mannequin in a store window and Whalen is incensed. Morrow chimes in some too. Another good Singh promo. Corporal Kirchner v. Vietcong Express 2 Kirchner throws one of the strangest fistdrops I've ever seen here. This short and a virtual squash. No clue why Kirchner was being put over this strong in Canada. Kirchner promo Johnny Smith v. Jason The Terrible JIP at 7 minutes. This is about half of a match, maybe a hair less. Really felt like a forerunner to the modern indy style as there were several really big time spots for the era and they were executed well, but they were pieced together incredibly poorly. Post-match Smith gets his ass kicked until Owen makes the save. Owen promo Another one of those insane Zodiac/Jason promos from "space" with the echo voiceovers. EXTRA Great Gama v. Hiro Hase JIP at about 9 minutes with the entire shine segment missing. What's shown is pretty good with Hase working a solid FIP and some big explosive offense on his comebacks. Loved Hase's splash with Gama tied up in the ropes and second attempt leading to the knee. Screwjob on the powder finish here was ridiculous. Shame this wasn't slightly more complete as with two or three minutes more on the front in this might be worth considering. If Will or anyone else ever makes a Hase set, I would argue for this on that. Hase promo
