Posted July 16, 201213 yr comment_5510350 VQ - Good to Very Good 1. Moondog Rex vs. Salvatore Bellomo Fun opener. Bellomo is very athletic for his size so he threw some nice dropkicks and mule kicks. He got a nearfall off of a crossbody but Rex pushed him off to the floor where he hurt his knee. Rex worked him over in a corner with some face raking and typical heel cheating. Bellomo fired back with a few more athletic kicks before running into a powerslam. Rex stopped the pin attempt at two though and went for a second powerslam only to have it reversed into a small package for the Bellomo win. Rex got in some cheap shots after the match. Again, fun opener but nothing to write home about. 2. Bobo Brazil vs. Big John Studd Pre-match interview is funny with Bobo talking about fighting big men and Kal Rudman saying he was serious as a heart attack. Terrible match. That's about it. 3. Greg Valentine vs. Pat Patterson This looks to be briefly JIP because The Hammer was on the floor running from Pat while the ref was counting. The video is skipping in this match towards the end quite a bit. Good match. Valentine catches Pat on his scamper back into the ring with some stiff shots. Pat fights back with some comedy spots like an atomic drop which The Hammer sells tremendously. Valentine bumps like a champ for Pat while getting his back worked on for a minute. Pat takes a great bump off a missed top rope knee which gives The Hammer the opening for the figure four. Pat taps and Greg locks it in again after the match. This was fun and pretty solid but nothing more. 4. Hulk Hogan vs. Paul Orndorff (WWF Title) Hulk's pre-match interview was hilarious with him discussing his friends in the parking lot not drinking but training. He spewed some other absurd, coked up words afterwards. This was quite good. It finished 80 on the first set and deserves to be on this one too. Hulk goes after Orndorff before he even can get his entrance gear off. Orndorff bumps all over the place for Hulk and the crowd is batshit. They settle things down for a few minutes by playing mind games and stalling in the ring. Orndorff sneaks in an eye rake and sends Hulk to the floor. He bloodies him with a stiff ass chair shot and works over the cut in the ring. Hulk is a bloody mess at this point but fights back with a lot of aggression. His offense looked great as he just punched the shit out of Orndorff, bit him in the face, and raked his chest. Orndorff cut off Hogan with a clothesline and beat on his bloody head again. He got a nearfall and Hulk fought back with some good stuff including a stiff elbow to the head. Orndorff cut off his comeback with another eye rake and went up top for a splash. Hulk moved, gave him the clothesline and legdrop to retain his belt. Orndorff threw in some cheap shots before Hulk cleared the ring after the match. This was really hate filled, stiff, bloody, and was a blast. I'm debating this as a low end or solid nod but for now solid nomination. Music Video - The Fad - "Wrestlin'" - EXTRA 5. The Wild Samoans vs. Mr. Fuji/Tiger Chung Lee The first discs of this show ends at about five minutes into this. The second disc begins with the intros so skip ahead to where the first disc left off. This was boredom. The only interesting person in this match was Fuji. He bumped well, made tremendous facial expressions, and did a great job with hiding a foreign object. Other than that, this match was twenty minutes of long chinlocks and by the numbers tag wrestling between old men. Fuji walked out on Lee and The Wild Samoans gave Lee a double headbutt to win. Fuji attacked Lee after the match but Lee fended him off with his kendo stick. 6. Roddy Piper vs. Jimmy Snuka Piper cuts an amusing promo about the coconut incident with Snuka pre-match. Fun sprint. The two brawl all over the ring and take a wild cross body bump over the ropes and to the floor. Piper stiffs Snuka for a minute then crotches him on the ropes which looked nasty for the DQ giving Snuka the match. Piper punched ref Red Bastien who took a tremendous bump off of it bouncing his head on each rope as he fell to the mat. Snuka fights back and Piper high tails it out of the arena. This was a lot of fun but a little too short. 7. George Steele vs. Steve Lombardi This sucked but Lombardi bumped well for Steele. Steele ate turnbuckles and ropes then won with the flying hammer lock. Steele assaulted the official and ring announcer after the match. The ring announcer announced the next card at the Spectrum. He did a nice tease with the special guest ref of the IC Title match with Tito and Iron Sheik. It ended up being Freddie Blassie. 8. Adrian Adonis/Dick Murdoch vs. Bob Backlund/B. Brian Blair (WWF Tag Title) Great match. This finished 23 on the first set. I don't think it holds up quite that well but this is still an easy nomination. Blair is fired up to start having fast paced rope running spots with Murdoch and executing some solid arm drags. Adonis comes in and gets the same treatment but bumps more intensely for Blair's offense. Adrian takes an absurd full speed turnbuckle flip bump. Backlund joins the fun and he and Blair continuously body slam Murdoch and Adonis. Eventually, Blair gets trapped in the heels corner and gets his arm worked on. Murdoch really wrenches in an arm lock and the we get a great camera angle of it. Blair keeps trying to get to Backlund for the tag but Murdoch or Adonis will always block Blair by getting on their hands and knees and tripping the weakened Blair. Blair finally gets the opening he needs by escaping a bulldog by Adrian which sends Adonis flying violently into the turnbuckle in an insane spot. Backlund gets the hot tag and cleans house for a minute but he gets overcome by the heels and is beaten to the floor. Backlund rips up the ring apron as he falls to the floor. Blair comes to the rescue but Murdoch rams him into the guardrail on the floor. Backlund gets double teamed for awhile at one point taking a really nasty throat first catapult into the bottom rope. However, Backlund strings a comeback and stumbles over to Blair for the hot tag. Adrian takes another ridiculous turnbuckle bump then gets caught in the ropes to have Murdoch swung into him. Blair gets a nearfall off of a back drop then does the abdominal stretch/pin combo. It gets broken up however and the heels give Blair a brutal backdrop/clothesline combination with Adonis nearly taking Blair's head off with the clothesline from the top rope. Murdoch and Adonis retain with the pin. This is a really great match with some awesome bumps from Adrian and good heel tag work. The finish was really good too. This holds up pretty well it seems and should finish fairly high but maybe not as high as it previously did. We get a clip of a TNT show with Vince interviewing Lou Thesz before the DVD ends. Final Analysis This was a very good show with a fun opener, two fun sprints, and two nominated matches with one probably being a lock for the set. There was also a music video as well. The shit didn't overshadow the good either. Overall, this was satisfactory stuff.
