The actual date on this is 7/23/84. Valentine and Hogan are interviewed pre-match. Valentine cuts a normal promo but Hulk says something about calling the electric company in NYC to turn the power off because the Hulkamaniacs will be making the city explode or something. This was pretty good. Valentine went after Hulk immediately following the ring announcements. Hulk fought back and threw some awesome punches and whipped Valentine into the turnbuckle aggressively who bumped great for it. Hulk got on a side head lock but got back suplexed and The Hammer pounded on him for a few minutes with some stiff clubs. This heat segment didn't do anything for me. They went to the floor and brawled so the match slowly got better. Hulk reversed a suplex attempt into his own and followed that up with a shoulder breaker and a fucking brutal big boot that connected with Valentine's face. Valentine found an opportunity to work on Hulk's leg after a Hogan mistake and worked on it briefly. He attempted the figure four but Hulk countered on both tries. There was a pretty good sleeper spot with Hulk fighting out of it. Valentine made his second heat segment more varied and compelling than the first. The Hammer went for a move from the top rope but caught a huge clothesline that looked sick from the camera angle. Hulk executed the leg drop in a bizarre but actually cool way to grab the win. There were parts in this that didn't sit well with me but there was some great brawling and fun spots. I could see this on a set and someone else possibly liking this more.

I agree with the low-end nomination. I thought these guys had a good solid match. Hogan feels like a real wrestler here. He brought a ton of energy , and the crowd was going ape-shit for him. Valentine did a good job working over Hogan. He finally gets to the leg and does some work to it. The finish was basic, but it worked well. I liked how Hulk dropped his right leg as opposed to the left since that was the one worked over. I watched this and a Valentine/Bruno from 79 match back to back. I thought the Bruno match was worked smarter. I thought this one was better.

HULK HOGAN vs GREG VALENTINE (07/23/1984; WWF MSG; New York, NY; 00:17:06)

-          Greg Valentine Interviews / Hulk Hogan Interview.

-          Hammer hammers Hogan right away. Hogan fucks up Hammer’s moment and doesn’t let him do his patented face first fall. He whips him into another corner and then they pull it off. Hogan in control early but Hammer turns a headlock into a back suplex. Hammer tries a suplex but Hogan reverses and he is back in control. Hammer outside and Hogan knocks him around outside. They go out again and this time, Hammer is waiting for him in side and takes over. Hammer sits in the chin lock. Hogan fights back abut Hammer grabs Hogan’s legs and rams them in the post then hits them with a chair. He is now working on the legs. Hogan tries the push off but Hammer turns around and headbutts him in the stomach. Hammer goes up for the old school Hammer forearm but Hogan hits him on the way down and gets the leg drop. This was a solid match that could have used a little more drama and excitement. Maybe some earlier leg work. MIDDLE NOMINATION.
