Cortez, seeking revenge on his former Army mates, brought unusual intensity to the early babyface control section. He didn't just grab an arm; he fucking hammered on the exposed shoulder. Heels eventually cut off the ring on Youngblood and unleashed a vicious, sustained attack on his midsection. I love body work, so I loved this, especially Buddy's driving knees to the ribs. Younblood remained in peril for much of the second fall. He excelled at escalating his comeback teases, with each one feeling more desperate. I really like the way he'd stumble to a neutral corner and then try to fight his way out. Cortez again brought the intensity when he finally took the hot tag. I wish he had just pinned somebody instead of tagging Youngblood, who again recovered a bit too quickly after 10+ minutes of vicious punishment. I liked Buddy trying to go back to Youngblood's midsection, but in a way, that made Youngblood's roll-up pin seem even cheaper. Anyway, it's a small gripe after two falls of really strong work. The third fall was more of a clusterfuck, with Wiskowski and Sawyer getting involved at ringside. Oliver used the distraction to drop Cortez with a thumb to the throat, which made sense in continuing their feud. This was another solid six-man main event, with the usual Portland logic and execution. Nomination. 12/20/80 - 27:00 Oliver - Embry (joined in progress) Boyd run in - Nothing much to this. Battle Royal with Rose, Oliver, Destroyer, Wiskowski, Cortez, Sawyer, Boyd, Youngblood, Afi, Matt Borne, Rocky Delessara & Tiny Anderson - Decent battle royal, won by Sawyer. The fans were into it, especially Buddy's elimination, but it's not something we need to think about for the set.
