Posted July 20, 201213 yr comment_5510620 VQ - Excellent (24/7) 1. Rene Goulet vs. Nick DeCarlo This was really bad. Everything looked weak and fake. Goulet and DeCarlo just didn't show any desire or will at all. It was just two guys waiting on their paycheck. I mean no effort put forth whatsoever. If it matters, Goulet won with the claw. 2. David Sammartino vs. Moondog Rex Rex carried David to a pretty decent match. David sucked on offense to start but Rex bumped well for him. David to manage to execute a good body press on Rex. Rex took control and worked on David's back. Rex changed things up a good bit so he made this part of the match compelling. There was a long bear hug spot but it had a decent struggle and David was always trying to get out of it. Rex slammed David on the infamous Maple Leaf Gardens ramp and did a nice back breaker. David came back with a nice flurry of punches and Rex bumped good for his offense. Rex caught David with a rough looking knee but missed a top rope elbow drop. David got him in a small package for the win. This was a pretty solid affair that shocked me. Rex seemed to really have a good idea of what he was doing out there. 3. David Schultz vs. Rick McGraw My God this was the shits. Schultz can properly execute a pin cover in any of his matches. This is the second match where there is a bizarre finish with a Schultz pin fall. What the fuck is going on??? McGraw and Schultz fucked with one another for a few minutes then McGraw got some offense in before Schultz turned it into total dog shit. McGraw took take a great turnbuckle bump but I don't guess anyone will want to watch this match just for that. 4. Greg Valentine vs. SD Jones (WWF IC Title) This wasn't bad. Valentine worked on Jones leg for most of the match and did several painful looking holds and stuff. Jones reversed the figure four and sent Valentine to the floor. They brawled there for a minute then Valentine gave Jones a nice back suplex and got the win. It looked like Jones kicked out after two but the match still ended anyways. Jones wasn't too happy afterwards. Again, this was a perfectly acceptable match with Valentine controlling things in his leg work. 5. Nikolai Volkoff vs. Rocky Johnson Volkoff sings the Russian National Anthem again before the match. He shits on Canada afterwards to get some solid boos from them. Tremendous. Volkoff sucks so bad. He doesn't know how to take offense at all. Rocky isn't good enough to carry this fucker either. I was bored most of the way through. Rocky kicked out of a top rope knee which was surprising. Volkoff won with a hot shot after withstanding a Rocky comeback. The only thing I discovered from this is how terrible Volkoff is. 6. The British Bulldogs vs. Bobby Bass/Goldie Rogers This fucking ruled. Bass and Rogers bumped like goddamn kings to EVERYTHING from the Bulldogs. Davey Boy is in peril in this for a little while and Bass puts in a nerve hold but makes it as interesting as possible by shaking his body while applying it. Bass was amusing in this trying to save Rogers at one point and stomping him instead. Refusing to tag Rogers after Rogers had done the same to him earlier in the match. Rogers and DK battle it out on the famed Toronto ramp. DK attempts a pile driver but gets back dropped on the ramp instead. The finishing run to this is awesome with Bass taking an INSANE bump off a missed flying head butt. Bass and Rogers bump like total idiots some more for the Bulldogs and Davey Boy puts Rogers on his shoulders which DK used as a stepping stone to hit an absolutely massive and brutal looking flying head butt to Bass for the win. Davey Boy drops Rogers from his shoulders onto the prone body of Bass after the match to the crowd's delight. This was incredibly fun and a tremendous squash. Low end nomination. 7. Andre The Giant vs. Kamala (Steel Cage Match) I've already seen this. It's disappointing. I posted it from Dailymotion in the NO CIGAR section. Feel free to check it out if one wants but I wasn't impressed. Here's my review from what I posted in the NO CIGAR thread: Disappointing match. This wasn't heated or violent enough for me to nominate this. Andre did bleed and Kamala worked the cut some but this match was too caught up in the scared Kamala trying to get through the cage door with his second and the ref grappling for position for five minutes. The finish was good though with Andre giving Kamala a giant ass splash from the top rope on the side of the cage. Still, this should have been more intense, so no nomination. Final Analysis This was not a particularly good show. However, it did have a tremendous squash match which is something I was hoping to find while working on this set. Most of this show felt by the numbers and lame for the most part though.
