This seemed significantly different from the MSG and Philly match hence the nomination. My only problem with it was that they lost the crowd with an Orndorff bear hug that went nowhere before going to the count out finish, but they got them back with the post match brawling and choking each other out with the mic cord.
July 5Jul 5 comment_6032226 PIPER V ORNDORFF (Landover 7/20/85) We get the hot start and then Orndorff controls the arm and wrist like the last one. Then from the wrist lock, se do get the slaps to the face but then he rams Piper arm first in to the corner. Piper turns the tide with knees on a splash. HE attacks and takes it ringside, ramming him on the table and smashing Paul with a phone. Orndorff trying to stand up and Piper just pokes his head out and punches him while he is down. Piper attacks and throws him back in the ring. Sunset flip by Paul for two. Piper hooks in a bear hug but he is struggling and he is also getting Paul in a pinning condition. Paul lifts up and does the cymbal crash to break the hold. They go outside and it goes nuts. Inside, Orndorff gets his own bear hug and Piper bites his way out of it. Count out finish but these guys are brawling and using everything at ringside. Even with the bear hugs, I enjoyed this much more than the MSG. As of now, this is a STRONG NOMINATION.
July 6Jul 6 comment_6032270 Found this on YouTube so let’s give it a watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwfpyTgtJHM Same start as the previous match but the middle portion has more out of the ring fighting with objects thrown in. There is a longish bearhug spot, but I think they work it better than the reverse facelock spot in the first match. Really good brawl for the double countout. Liked this better than the first match so I’ll give this solid to strong depending on how the other matches stack up. Ranking so far is Landover 7/20/85; MSG 7/13/85.
