VQ - Good

1. SD Jones vs. Tiger Chung Lee

Shockingly solid match with good psychology. I'm totally bewildered right now because this is way better than it should have been. Lee kept Jones from the ring then goaded him to the apron where he smashed his leg against a ring post. Lee worked on Jones leg with several long holds but they were all different and a few were pretty unique. Jones occasionally would muster up a comeback but his leg would give out on him. The best spot in the match was Jones giving Lee a back body drop but his leg giving out in the process allowing Lee to take control again. Jones won with a small package after Lee continued arguing with the referee as he had done throughout the match. Like I said, I was incredibly surprised at how watchable this was. I'm not nominating it but this was a perfectly fine and psychologically sound opener.

2. Jesse Ventura vs. Tony Garea

Average squash match really more than anything. Both guys traded arm work then Ventura threw a couple of decent thrust to Garea's throat. Garea came back and landed a few shoulder blocks then got tossed to the floor. He got a near fall off a sunset flip as he came back into the ring. Right after that, Ventura got Garea up in the Canadian back breaker for the win. Again, just an average competitive squash match.

3. Greg Valentine vs. Salvatore Bellomo

Amusing sprint. Things barely even get underway when the middle ring rope breaks after Valentine misses a knee in the corner. They actually both used the broken rope as a weapon which was cool before they went into a reverse chin lock to figure out what the hell just happened. Bellomo missed a knee of his own on the mat and Valentine locked in the figure four for the win. This was entertaining at at least for the broken middle rope but nothing else happened of note.

4. Jimmy Snuka vs. David Schultz

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE match. Schultz forgot to lock up and walked around taunting Snuka to kill time instead. Then, both guys clubbed each other with terribly ineffective blows until Snuka ended my agony when he landed a cross body for the win. Snuka cut a shitty promo after the match. This seriously is one of the worst matches I've seen so far. Absolutely atrocious.

5. Sgt. Slaughter vs. The Iron Sheik (Bootcamp Match)

Sarge cut a promo saying he will leave wrestling in the DC area forever if he doesn't make Sheik bleed and beat him in the Bootcamp match tonight. Very, very good bloodbath. Both guys bled some buckets and sold the exhaustion and brutality very well. Sheik used his loaded boot to his advantage and both guys also used the ring posts on various occasions. Sheik gave Sarge a couple of low blows which really got the crowd going. The finish was really good with Sheik attacking referee Dick Worley then removing one of his boots and loaded it. Sarge ducked the boot shot and used the boot himself to whack Sheik really stiffly with. Sarge won the match and Private Terry Daniels joined him in celebration after the match. This match was really good but didn't have any significant spots that stood out. Therefore, I'm giving it a solid nomination.

6. Roddy Piper vs. Rocky Johnson

This was disappointing. I was hoping for more but Piper stalled for the first half of the match then stooged to Rocky before laying one really good punch for the win. I wish Piper had decided to come in the damn ring earlier and attempt to have a match but I guess he phoned it in. More than likely though, Piper just came into the company so he wasn't quite into his groove anyway. Disappointing match nonetheless.

7. Terry Daniels vs. Samula

This was actually pretty decent. Samula took good bumps and gave good offense. There were a couple of hope spots thrown in here too. Samula gave Daniels a really nasty brainbuster early. There was an awkward spot on the floor but they made up for it in the finishing run. Samula took a great bump off a missed charge to the turnbuckle and Daniels did a sunset flip for the win. As mentioned earlier, this ended up being a solid little match.

8. Bob Orton Jr. vs. Ivan Putski

This was boring. Orton took a few good bumps and there was some stiff shots but I never was very interested. Putski did give a solid suplex in here as well. Orton did some usual heel cheating tactics but lost the match because of it. He threw the ref out of his way while beating on Putski in the corner and got disqualified. After the match, Putski screamed some Polish shit in the mic and the crowd liked it.

Final Analysis

Okay show. Sarge-Sheik was very good and is getting a solid nomination. There were also a few surprisingly decent matches with so so talent. In the end, a decent show with the shit, decency, and really good all mixed in.
