Dream Team vs. Ricky Steamboat/Tito Santana (4/21/85 Toronto)

- This reminds me of the AWA tag teams with a couple of different face in peril segments and not really knowing who was going to win until the end. All of the offense was pretty crisp but nothing super memorable. I remember not liking this before but I enjoyed it much more this time around. Still think the figure-4 coming out of nowhere to end the match is awkward. LOW LEVEL NOMINATION

Rewatched this again and not seeing it. Seems like Tito and Greg had some fun sequences but nothing as violent as the descriptions in thier singles feud. I think Steamboat's chop offense was fun (I am a Steamboat mark) and the Dream Team sold it well enough but I think we have better Steamboat performances on the set. The structure was a simple back and forth beat 'em up which is perfectly fine but it isn't a particular memorable story that I would be able to describe to someone on the streets in 2 weeks. I stand by my low-level assessment.

#45 RICKY STEAMBOAT & TITO SANTANA vs GREG VALENTINE & BRUTUS BEEFCAKE (04/21/1985; WWF Maple Leaf Gardens; 00:21:57)
-    Steamboat starts quickly and cleans house on both guys. Tito locks in a chin lock and the crowd keeps the match moving chanting “Fruitcake”. Tito wants Valentine. He gets his wish after a Beefcake slam an tag. Tito dodges a dropping elbow and lights Hammer up. That is what we call playing possum. Back in, Valentine looks to punish Tito but Tito fires back and he has extra stiff shots for Valentine. Tito signals for the figure 4 but Greg blocks and kicks Tito in the gut. Now, Hammer and Brutus take turns beating up on Tito and he is in peril. Hammer knocks Ricky on the concrete to keep Tito from getting the tag. Then Brutus goes around and attacks Ricky on the outside. Great evil heel shit. After several minutes of getting beat up, Tito goes through Beefcake’s legs and hits the hot tag. Steamboat is a house of fire and ends up in peril. Steamboat is a great face in peril. The ending after Tito makes the hot tag is hot! He hits the burrito for a near fall. The Dream Team double team him until Ricky comes off the top with a karate chop on Brutus. A Valentine atomic drop is reversed into the figure 4 and Tito gets the submission. The crowd comes unglued. Great match, great structure, great stretch run and finish. SLAM DUNK NOMINATION. I didn’t love this 10 or 20 years ago, I love this now. I think the turning point is being able to see Tito and his run in depth so I know what to expect and I appreciate the hot crowd much more also.
