Blue Angel vs Barry Horowitz (8/13/88 Los Angeles, CA)

Owen was solid working in and out of the arm and had enough high flying to get a pop. However, the crowd was not buying what these guys were selling and it was pretty dead throughout. The end was a holy shit moment when Owen breaks Barry's face with his moonsault knees. I absolutely would not fight for this to be on the set and would give it a MIDDLE NOMINATION at best. However, it finished #37 and I can see people wanting this match on the new set. Still, I think there is a Hart family bias in the old voting and this has no business being in the top half. 

I enjoyed this and Angel really got Horowitz on the finish. Some nice counters and pin maneuvers. I'd say low to middle but a bit astonished at the placement in the first set.

I rewatched this due to my newfound love for Barry Horowitz.

-    Early on, no crowd response but let’s see if it is deafening at the end. Owen controls the arm and does his nice arm work, driving the knee in the arm from a hammerlock. Some leap frogs and kip ups and back to the arm. Nasty knee to the elbow from Owen. Standing monkey flip and still hooking the arm. Beautiful hammerlock suplex. Barry is selling the arm and Owen continues to control. A hip toss and arm drag and Owen goes back to the arm. Owen tries to get the crowd into it. Barry goes to the corner to buy some time and Owen is not attacking. Owen hits a hammerlock body slam. Beautiful. Barry catches Owen with a NICE thrust kick to end Owen’s 7 minutes of offense. Barry hits a pointed elbow to Owen’s throat draped off the apron. Nasty. He follows up with a slingshot on the bottom rope. Nice. Barry isn’t letting up. Choking with the boot. The Barry leg drop. European uppercut. Too bad the crowd does not care. Barry whips Angel into the corner sternum first. He stands on him and pats himself on the back. The pin got two. Double underhook suplex got two. Barry hooks a front face lock. Owen breaks out but on a whip, Barry gets a NICE knee up in the face… for two. Damn… Barry got a three on a backslide but the ref said it was two. Barry lets go of a front face lock in the corner and it was his mistake because the Angel chopped him and got a 2nd rope cross body. Barry clotheslines him using the top rope. These guys are busting their ass and deserve a better crowd. Sunset flip for two for Owen. Ab stretch bridge pin by Barry for two. Barry goes to the top. Owen kips up and tosses him off. Missile dropkick gets the crowd into it. Angel with the 2nd rope knee drop for two. Backbreaker for two. Owen got his knees up in the corner. He slams Barry and KILLS Barry with a moonsault that lands on Barry’s face. The crowd politely cheers Blue Angel. I liked this much more the 2nd time around. I Think this is a STRONG NOMINATION that should have been a slam dunk but the crowd hurt the match. Owen was smart working the arm. Barry sold the arm and damaged Owen’s neck and throat when he was in control. Both guys emptied their tanks trying to put the other away. Glad I watched this again.
