Bob Backlund vs Sgt. Slaughter (3/21/81 Philadelphia, PA)

This was a real good escape the cage match. I'm not a fan of those but this was worked really well. Slaughter's escape the cage spots were really done well. Being in a cage Slaughter is going to be a pinball and bleed for our pleasure. So if course he doesn't disappoint. Backlund does some real good punches that get his hands covered in blood. I feel this is a high end nomination.

Steel Cage Match for the WWF Heavyweight Title: Bob Backlund © vs. Sgt. Slaughter (3/21/81)

Sarge is wearing his combat pants and boots over his tights. This is a bloody war with both men just beating the piss out of each other with everything they had. Slaughter gushed like a madman and Backlund attacking the cut was glorious. This was an escape the cage match which was never as fun but the battle between the two men of Slaughter trying to get out was great. Just an amazing match with Dick Graham & Kal Rudman losing their minds along with the crowd and a slam dunk nomination.

BOB BACKLUND vs SGT. SLAUGHTER-CAGE (03/21/1981; WWF Philadelphia Spectrum; 00:25:18) 4 ¾
-    Sarge immediately tries to escape. Bob stops him. Bob throws a punch and punches the cage. Then Sarge gets thrown into the cage. Then thrown into the cage again. Sarge is bumping so hard. Sarge regroups and is able to throw Bob into the cage twice. He almost escapes but Bob grabs him. Oh wow. They each try to leave. Bob gets rammed in to the cage. Sarge gets a big low blow from Bob for his insolence. Sarge is whipped into the corner of the cage and he finally starts bleeding. Then another corner. Bob rams him again and again and punches the cut. Brutal. The biggest pop of the night was for Bob raking Sarge’s bloody face across the cage. Bob almost punches Sarge out of the cage but he gets him back in. Sarge is being abused. Respect the military, Bob!!! Thank you for your service!!!! Both are on the top rope and Sarge gets rammed on the top of the cage. Falls in a hump. Bob kicks him in the head for good measure. Walks out like a fucking boss. The crowd is non-stop. One of the most exciting matches I have seen. SLAM DUNK NOMINATION. I can’t believe this only got #35 on the first round. This is better than about a dozen of the top 20 matches I have watched.
