Ken Patera vs. Bruno Sammartino (11/8/80)

- Wrestled differently than the other Patera matches since it is a power vs. power match-up so you see both guys trying to outpower the other. Early on, Patera establishes he has to cheat to overpower Bruno. When Bruno takes over, Patera bumps and stooges for him and Bruno starts to attack the arm topped off with a nice bodyslam from a hammerlock that looked nasty. Man,Patera fights back and applies the full nelson but I think Bruno broke it was too fast. Still, Brno’s arm work was pretty great. Knowing he can’t win with one arm, Patera grabs a chair and gets DQed for his troubles. Not as strong as the other Patera 80s matches but well worth watching. I wouldn’t be surprised if people like this more than me. LOW LEVEL NOMINATION

I liked this a bit more than Will and feel it's a solid nomination. Both guys early are trying to establish physical domination. We get a cool overhand wristlock spot that leads to Patera pulling Bruno's hair twice. In a nice payback spot Bruno does the same thing. Patera is focusing on the back with kicks and stomps along with some AWA elbow drops. Patera goes to old knee in the back of Bruno. Bruno's reversal was great and Patera quickly gets the ropes. Patera takes a nice shoulder bump into the ring post. This allows Bruno to focus on the arm. The work on the arm is really rugged. Bruno uses the tools he has and just murders the arm. Patera eventually gets vertical and uses a well placed elbow to escape. Patera teases the swinging full nelson that Bruno escapes way too quickly. They really could have milked this spot for a lot more. Then again Patera's arm is pretty fucked up here. Patera is selling the arm big time. Bruno's focus is the arm. This leads to a Patera chair shot and a DQ. I thought this was a good match.

Was not feeling this second time around.

BRUNO SAMMARTINO vs KEN PATERA (11/08/1980; WWF Philadelphia Spectrum; 00:20:57)

-          Early on they work a test of strength and Patera hooks a hammerlock and they work in and out. Then Patera drops some elbows and starts a surfboard and that gets reversed. Bruno finally takes over and he controls the arm and hooks a hammerlock and starts dropping knees. Patera attempts a full nelson but that fails. Patera is relentless on the arm. Patera can’t get back inside. Patera brings a chair in and gets the DQ. Second DQ in a main match on this card. Bummer.
