Hart Foundation vs. Killer Bees (MSG 2/23/87)

Newest Foundation member Danny Davis is with the Harts. And the tag titles are on the line. This match is a bit slow to start, but the crowd does get into it as it goes along. Some nice work from both teams throughout but the finish is slightly screwed up when the bell rings too early when Anvil is breaking up a pin attempt after a beautiful Brunzell dropkick. The action continues with Davis interfering and helping the Harts win.

Wait, this match placed #50 in the original set? I thought it was good but not at that level. I have a feeling we have better matches between the two teams. Since it’s top 50 from the original set it’s going to be watched by you guys anyway, but at most I’m low to middle on this and wouldn’t fight for it to stay on the set, particularly if we have a better version of this matchup.

#50 Hart Foundation vs. Killer Bees (MSG 2/23/87)
Cool work from the Bees early on. I loved the sequence where Brunzell tried a hip toss, wouldn’t budge, head scissors, wouldn’t budge and slides into a sunset flip for two. Beautiful. Great work form the Bees working the arm and Bret getting tangled and allowing Blair to spear him in the ropes was nuts!!! Smart Hart work with anvil agitating Brian and taking his focus off Bret allowing Bret to ambush and get the tag to Anvil. The face in peril section is the weak part to me. They don’t do anything particularly evil or nasty. It’s all very proficient and precise but nothing that makes them hated. At this point in their career, Anvil isn’t really laying the character on thick and Bret isn’t charismatic yet. So we are supposed to hate them because they have Jimmy Hart as a manager and the announcers tell us they are bad but they aren’t really displaying violence or cockiness. Blair is able to give Bret an electric chair drop and get the hot tag. That brings the crowd to life.  Hot run with an awkward inadvertent bell ring and Danny Davis interfering to give the Harts the win. I agree this should not have been #50. It was a good, solid tag but can the two teams have the GREAT tag. They have 15 matches against each other so we will find out. If this is the best of the bunch, I have no problem including it because it would mean this is peak Bees-Harts. But hopefully we can ditch this vanilla milkshake and get a real barnburner. SOLID NOMINATION.
