Posted July 29, 201213 yr comment_5511501 VQ - Very Good 1. Cobra vs. Barry O Good match. This was pretty long and they got a lot of stuff in. Barry O got a sneak attack to start to the match but it wasn't long before Cobra got on top. This was real back and forth and both guys couldn't seem to get the advantage. Barry O did a nice power slam and had a cool escape from a leg scissors. Cobra did a cross body over the ropes and to the floor. There were a couple of really good near falls including one where Cobra hit a sweet cross body but couldn't pick up the win. Barry O randomly applied a spinning toe hold at one point. The finish was pretty botched as Cobra went for a hurracanrana pin but both guys blew the spot so they kind of rolled on the mat to get to the pin for the finish. There was some good stuff in this but for the most part everything was average and the finish was botched as well. 2. Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Matt Borne Decent match. Borne did some solid heeling throughout the match. He shoved his feet in Fujinami's face and throat, choked him, gouged him, kicked him when he was down, and used closed fist. He also put in a reverse chin lock and modified Cobra Clutch. Fujinami would stir up little mini-comebacks but Borne was just cheat or punch the shit out of him. Borne got in a pair of good suplexes. He bumped well for Fujinami's offense including a dropkick that he jumped pretty high off of. Fujinami won with a german suplex pin. This wasn't terribly special, but was okay for what it was worth. 3. King Kong Bundy vs. Swede Hanson Mean Gene interviews Jimmy Hart and Bundy. Jimmy and Gene argue about Gene's height and Bundy says Swede Hanson will look small in comparison to him. Gene wanted to know if Bundy would demand a five count on Hanson in the match. Jimmy refused to have Bundy answer and they left to get ready for the match. Bundy toyed with Swede for awhile with big knees and clubs to the back and neck. Swede got pissed and fought back. Bundy did some great weebly wobbly selling to all of Swede's strikes. However, Bundy whipped Swede into a turnbuckle, hit the Avalanche, and nailed him with a massive elbow smash for the win. There was no five count but Bundy and Jimmy Hart celebrated after the match. This was short and sweet but a decent competitive squash. 4. The British Bulldogs vs. Rene Goulet/Johnny Rodz Very fun tag match. Goulet and Rodz bumped gloriously for the Bulldogs. Rodz took a tremendous bump from a body press off the top rope by Davey Boy. Both Goulet and Rodz took great bumps off separate dropkicks from Davey Boy and DK. There was actually a fairly long heat segment here. Goulet and Rodz made quick tags and worked over DK. DK made the tag to Davey Boy and they did the same to him. DK even got beat up some more before the end of the match. Goulet and Rodz both did some decent double team moves and got some near falls. The finishing run was great with Goulet taking an awesome bump from a DK monkey flip, Rodz getting power slammed by Davey Boy, and the Bulldogs winning with DK using Goulet's back, who was on Davey Boy's shoulders, as a trampoline to land a nasty flying headbutt on Rodz for the win. This was fun as hell and the jobbers ruled but they weren't as good as Bobby Bass and Goldie Rogers in the previous Bulldogs tag I watched recently. 5. Ricky Steamboat vs. Moondog Spot Okay match. Steamboat threw some decent looking karate chops and arm drags to start. He did some solid arm work too. Spot's control segment was better in this than most of his matches because Steamboat sells everything so well. There was one cool spot where Steamboat went for a sunset flip but Spot caught him with a right hand to prevent the move. Steamer got a near fall on a cross body but couldn't hold Spot on a body slam. Spot did a nice power slam and went up top but got launched off with a body press by Steamboat instead. Steamboat did a karate chop off the top rope but later was caught in a front atomic drop. It wasn't long though that Steamboat was up top hitting a cross body for the win. This was a solid match but nothing to write home about. Hulk Hogan Music Video: Eye of the Tiger/Wringling Brothers Charity Video - EXTRA 6. Hulk Hogan vs. Don Muraco (WWF Title) Pretty good match. This one's hard to judge because I haven't seen the two matches that made the first set yet. The first half was pretty interesting to watch. Hulk did some very good arm work on Muraco that was followed up by some exceptional leg work on Hogan by Muraco. It was cool to see Hogan work such a wrestling based match and focus so much of his time on the mat. He was actually pretty solid at it too. The problem with this match is after they exchange body part work the match doesn't get even better. It feels like it gets a little worse. There's not a plummet of good work to bad work but rather the match doesn't seem to progress after the first half mat work. Muraco takes control and sort of just strolls along. It's like he was done for the night and did his "cool" leg work. Now it's just time to do whatever. There was a great spot where Muraco attempted a tombstone and Hulk used his legs to smack Muraco in the head to get out of the move but everything else was just there. Hogan Hulked up gave Muraco a big boot that sent him to the floor and they brawled there for a minute. Mr. Fuji got involved and Hulk chased after him. Muraco rammed Hulk into a ring post and got back into the ring before the count of ten to win. Hulk still kept his belt though and ran the heels out of the ring after the match. I don't know. I can't get myself to like this enough to nominate it. It was getting there then they just coasted the rest of the way. Disappointing result to a great start. 7. Mike Rotundo vs. The Iron Sheik Good match. Sheik was really good in this. Rotundo doesn't do much for me though. He wasn't bad it's just I don't find him very interesting. Rotundo went after Sheik before Sheik could get his gear off and tossed him around. He choked Sheik with his turban thingy and hit him with it too. Rotundo got an early near fall off of a sunset flip but Sheik gave Rotundo a back body drop and took over. I love Sheik's mocking in his matches as he spits and curses the vile Americans he wrestles. Rotundo was tossed to the floor but he recovered and returned to the ring to have a little amateur exhibition with Sheik. They were on the mat for awhile and Rotundo was winning the exchanges. Sheik got fed up and used his boot to his advantage. He awesomely took Rotundo to the floor and savagely beat him on the announcer's table and with a chair. Rotundo withstood the punishment though and came back. Sheik's begging is the best ever as he kneels and bows down to his opponents in fear. Tremendous. Sheik would miss a running knee into the corner and get rolled up for the Rotundo win. Sheik was a blast in this and Rotundo was okay I guess but this ended up being just a good, solid match. 8. Barry Windham vs. Nikolai Volkoff Volkoff sings his country's National Anthem. I love that shit. This was just there. Barry did a really cool roll up for a near fall. Barry worked on Volkoff's arm. Volkoff worked on Barry's back for the rest of the match. He did a press slam and a gord buster. Then he locked in a really long bear hug which wasn't too compelling. Barry reversed the bear hug into a sleeper but Volkoff got him back into a bear hug again. Barry fought back with a dropkick and both guys slugged it out. Volkoff missed a splash into a turnbuckle and smashed his head against a ring post. Barry was punching him in a corner when The Iron Sheik came out and attacked him. Windham won by disqualification and Mike Rotundo came out to make the save after the match. This was just okay at best. Volkoff is obviously not very good at all. The Fink announced the next MSG card which includes a Tag Title match between The U.S. Express and The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff. 9. Tito Santana/The Junk Yard Dog vs. The Dream Team Mean Gene interviews Tito and JYD. JYD calls Brutus Beefcake "Brutus Fruitcake" and Tito says there's unfinished business between him and Greg Valentine. Good, solid tag match. Tito and Greg were in a fight every time they had exchanges. JYD basically did headbutts and nothing more but his crawling headbutts on Beefcake ruled. Tito is a great FIP and was good here. Beefcake is clearly the weakest link on the Dream Team. It's blatantly obvious. Valentine would savagely beat Tito then Beefcake would come in and work soft. There was a tremendous spot where The Hammer was being a total prick to Tito just fucking with him and Tito burst into an awesome rage and violently beat Greg in the face with forearms. Tito had to go around and under both Valentine and Beefcake to make the hot tag to JYD. JYD did some headbutts then missed one and became FIP. He wasn't so good at it. The Hammer smashed his leg against the ring apron presumably to set up the figure four but nothing came of it. JYD got the tag to Tito who had an awesome exchange with Greg. Tito leveled Valentine with a clothesline but Beefcake broke up the pin attempt. JYD handled Beefcake and Tito came off the ropes and viciously took The Hammer's head off with a brutal forearm for the win. The Dream Team assaulted JYD and Tito as the show came to a close. Tito and Greg ruled but everyone else just happened to be either on the apron or in the ring. This was good but nothing more. Final Analysis Average show. There wasn't a bad match on the card really. Bundy-Swede was just a squash and it wasn't too terrible so that doesn't count. There were a few matches that had opportunities to get nominated but fizzled out by the end or didn't have the supporting talent needed to help them out. Ultimately, this show isn't a memorable one and only gave us a possible EXTRA.
