VQ - Very Good

1. Hulk Hogan vs. Ken Patera (WWF Title)

Pretty good match. This is significant and that it's really Patera's last important match from an important venue before he goes to jail. Hogan is a wall to Patera's attempt at overpowering and trying to take him down. Patera took a few good bumps then they went into a long test of strength spot with Patera kicking Hulk in the abdomen to take the advantage. Patera kept the test of strength position and Hulk attempted to fight out of it. Hulk eventually did and swung Patera into the turnbuckle followed by a back body drop. Then he torpedoed Patera into the ring post which was awesome. Patera got in a few more big moves including a couple of elbow drops for near falls but was on defense for the pretty much the rest of the match. Hogan suplexed, rammed Patera into the turnbuckle, and gave him a big boot. He went for the leg drop but Heenan tripped up Hulk. Hogan went after Heenan and Patera attempted a running knee to Hulk's back but Hulk moved and Patera kneed Heenan instead. Hulk rolled Patera up for the win right afterwards. Patera and Heenan attempted a beat down on Hogan after the match but Hulk prevailed and cleaned house to continue his usual post-match celebration. This ended up being pretty fun and had some good spots. I wish Patera could have been given a little more offense but this was a solid championship Hogan match.

Music Video: "Wrestlin" by The Fad - We already have a video from this band and song but it's a new one. I'll give it an EXTRA anyways.

2. Big John Studd vs. Steve Lombardi

Studd has an extended squash with Lombardi. He works on Lombardi's back pretty much the whole match. Studd gives Lombardi a swing into the turnbuckle which Lombardi bumps great for, a back breaker, slams him into the ring post after throwing him to the floor, an atomic drop, and a body slam before giving him an elbow drop to finish him off for the win. This wasn't that interesting and pretty boring. Studd doesn't do much for me at all. It was just a squash anyways as there was nothing really to it.

3. George Steele vs. Barry O

Kal Rudman interviews Captain Lou Albano who is now managing George Steele. Captain Lou says he's getting George as psychologist or something and says he's misunderstood. He also hilariously claims Steele is a genius with an IQ of over 160. Albano defends George on the subject of him being mistreated by the team of The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff. Rudman pipes in and says something about Sheik and Volkoff using Steele for political reasons which was hysterical. Then Rudman and Albano claimed George was an idiot savant. This was fucking funny as shit. Steele goes apeshit after Barry O but forgets to take his shirt off. While he's taking it off Barry O Pearl Harbors him with his shirt over his head. Captain Lou helps George to get his shirt off and George suddenly fights back and goes right after Barry O. Steele throws Barry O to the floor, smashes his head on announcer's table, chokes him with a steel chair, chugs two steel chairs in the ring, eats a turnbuckle, and rams Barry O's head into the exposed turnbuckle. George pins him for the win and races back to the locker room in a wild fit or something. This was quick and a squash match so it was just there.

Mel Phillips announces the next card including the debuts of Randy Savage and Lanny Poffo. I'm excited because now the Poffo's are in the WWF and soon after will be Terry Funk.

4. The Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff vs. The U.S. Express (WWF Tag Title)

Volkoff sings the Russian National Anthem and Sheik shits on America with incoherent rambling. Tremendous. Good match. It wasn't nearly as exciting as their previous match and the finish sucked. The opening exchange was awesome with Sheik doing a cartwheel and flexing to the crowd only to get dropkicked to the floor by Rotundo. Sheik also had a great criss cross spot with Windham that resulted in a near fall with a sunset flip by Windham. Volkoff was in the match too long and wasn't even close to as good as Sheik stooging. Barry got a couple of near falls on comedy spots with Volkoff including a cross body but got hit in the mid-section by Volkoff and then a forearm to the back. Volkoff and Sheik then worked on Barry's back for several minutes. Sheik did his cool gut wrench suplex and applied the Camel Clutch too but Rotundo made the save for Windham. Sheik's taunting was tremendous as usual here as he flexed some to the crowd and spat on a beaten Windham. Barry reversed a suplex by Sheik into his own and had a head on collision before making the hot tag to Rotundo. Rotundo's hot tag was good as he dropkicked Sheik and nailed Volkoff right afterwards. Rotundo got three near falls on Sheik with the last one being off of his finisher the Airplane Spin but Volkoff broke up each pin attempt. Barry got fed up and brawled with Volkoff because Volkoff continuously breaking pin falls by Rotundo. All four guys were brawling but Rotundo got tossed to the floor and Windham was caught upside in the turnbuckle getting stomped on and choked by Sheik and Volkoff. However, George Steele came out and made the save taking out both Sheik and Volkoff. This cost Windham and Rotundo the match though as Sheik and Volkoff won by disqualification because of Steele's interference. Steele chased Mel Phillips out of the ring after Phillips announced that Sheik and Volkoff retained the titles because of his interference. This was pretty fun and had some good stuff but wasn't nearly as good as their MSG match a few day earlier.

Final Analysis

I wish we had this whole show but for what we've got it isn't too bad. We mostly got fun matches and did have another music video to use as an EXTRA. I'm still awaiting the arrival of Savage, Poffo, and Funk. That's when the roster starts to get loaded with the best talent it had during this time period.
