Posted August 3, 201213 yr comment_5511828 VQ - Okay 1. Tony Atlas vs. Bret Hart Okay match. They locked up a couple of times and then Bret took control not long afterwards. This was pretty by the numbers as Bret sort of wandered around the ring and did his thing. He did his delayed leg drop which I'm pretty sure is something he does in every one of his matches ever. It's actually a pretty safe way to execute a leg drop if one thinks about it. Tony gets a decent little hope spot and sends Bret to the ropes but gets kicked in the mid-section to continue the heat segment. Bret locks in a reverse chin lock and Tony breaks free of it. Atlas gives Bret a pretty good punching combo and gives him a back body drop off the ropes. Tony takes Bret to the corner and starts pounding on him but Bret crotches him on the ropes and is disqualified. Atlas clears him from the ring after the match. Like I said earlier, this was just okay. It was all basic stuff and very much so by the numbers. 2. David Sammartino vs. Brutus Beefcake This match was actually pretty good. Beefcake attacked David as David got on the apron and started to immediately work over his back. Beefcake gave him a back body drop, atomic drop, swung him into the turnbuckle back first, and really worked him over. David fought back after a few near falls for Beefcake and gave him a back body drop himself but still wasn't fully recovered from the beating Beefcake had given him. David did end up having an extended shine segment as he threw some nice punching combinations and got near falls of his own on Beefcake. Beefcake regained control after a little cheating and continued to cheat but choking and stomping on David as David was down on the ropes. Beefcake sent David to the floor and there was a pretty decent King of the Mountain segment with David on the floor but it ended with the spot of the match. David brought a chair in the ring and fucking violently hit Beefcake in the head with it and followed that up with a really good vertical suplex for a tremendous near fall. Beefcake got in one last cheap shot before David got in a backslide to get the win. Beefcake attacked David after the match and the crowd was mad about it. This had a really great spot in it and good structure but Beefcake's second heat segment was pretty boring and forgetful. It's too bad because if there was anything to that section of the match this might have been nominated. 3. Ricky Steamboat/Paul Orndorff vs. Don Muraco/Bob Orton Jr. This was a really fun match with a hot crowd but I would say that's about it. Muraco and Orton stooge for Steamboat and Orndorff really well and it's a blast. Orton's cast comes into play and Steamer is in FIP for awhile and gets tossed to the floor with Mr. Fuji jabbing him with his cane. Steamboat finally gets back in the ring and eventually tags Orndorff. Orndorff has a great brawling exchange with Orton until Muraco interferes and nails Orndorff in the back. Orton cheats by using his cast to rub in Orndorff's face but Orndorff fights back and tags in Steamboat. Steamboat and Orndorff clean house and the crowd is wild. Steamboat goes for his cross body off the top rope but Muraco uses Fuji's cane to whack the shit out of him with it knocking him to the mat. Muraco and Orton double team Orndorff but soon get hit with a double cross body off the ropes by Orndorff. Steamboat and Orndorff clear the heels from the ring and Muraco and Orton call it a night and don't return giving Steamboat and Orndorff the victory by count-out. This was tons of fun but I just wasn't blown away and nothing grabbed my attention all that much. Final Analysis This was a fun show. I'm glad I got to see the main event even though I didn't nominate it. It was a definitely a fun match. The other two matches were okay and pretty good themselves with Sammartino-Beefcake being shockingly good for who was in the match. Overall, I was satisfied even though nothing was passed to the next stage.
