October 31, 201212 yr Author comment_5518191 Savage and Sherri couldn't be more optimistic about the Royal Rumble. They briefly tease the feud with Dusty, with Sherri casting some words of warning toward Sapphire. Can I just state how awesome MACHO KING RANDY SAVAGE was? I'm bound to say it again.
October 31, 201212 yr comment_5518225 Macho played it to the hilt but I thought the King act pretty much screamed mid-card, based on both past history of the gimmick and Savage's feud with Rhodes which felt like it lasted for 6 years without going anywhere. I know that was SOP for the WWF main event heels for the entire run of the promotion up until the Monday Night Wars, but it doesn't make it any less of a waste.
November 1, 201212 yr comment_5518351 Count me as a big Macho King and Queen Sherri fan. I like when Sherri stands on the wrong side of Okerlund by mistake, Macho waves the scepter at her to get out of the way.
November 1, 201212 yr comment_5518425 Macho King does feel a little midcardish but damn if Savage didn't play it for everything he had. Real good promo mixing in different angles and events like the Royal Rumble and I always love Gene's and Sherri's interactions.
November 7, 201212 yr comment_5519153 I'll second those saying that the Macho King gimmick was enjoyable, but felt midcard. Still, whether it's midcard or not, this promo rules, and if Savage is going to midcard purgatory for a while, he should at least be the most interesting damned midcard guy there ever was.
November 8, 201212 yr comment_5519343 I swear Sherri is packing extra pounds there in early 90. Macho's crown looks not a million miles away from the Burger King's plastic crown. Effective promo from both. Sherri comes across like she really hates Sapphire.
November 8, 201212 yr comment_5519350 Can I just state how awesome MACHO KING RANDY SAVAGE was? I'm bound to say it again. Say it again. Macho King was the epithome of awesome. And Queen Sherri... Should have got the belt back on him with this gimmick at some point.
February 2, 201312 yr comment_5532488 I imagine there's gonna be a lot of WWF stuff on this set that I'm gonna turn around on. Like I've said before, I wasn't watching wrestling anymore really during 1990 and when I did it was usually WCW. I'd occasionally turn on the WWF if I was flipping around on a Saturday afternoon, though, and inevitably something would come on that was just too WWF cartoony that annoyed me. Macho King is something I've turned around on. Savage just may be my favorite wrestler ever, and at the time I thought it sucked, but I was very wrong. He rules here. (I did happen to see how he cost Warrior the belt on some Saturday show back then, and I loved that. Warrior was one of the guys that made me stop watching back then.)
April 10, 201312 yr comment_5541647 This was a typically great interview with Savage and Sherri. Both were such great performers. They talked about the upcoming Royal Rumble.
April 13, 201312 yr comment_5542014 Good promo here to basically hype the Rumble. Some early work here to build up the eventual mixed tag match at Mania that nobody wanted to see. It's still disappointing to see Savage stuck in the midcard.
July 14, 201312 yr comment_5552019 This just makes me wish Savage found a time to feud with Dusty when it would have been awesome.
October 9, 201311 yr comment_5566789 Savage's quick looks and turns to the crowd are always perfectly engrained into his promos (and matches). Even if his status was lower here, he was still going 100%. Loved it.
November 26, 201410 yr comment_5641877 I liked Savage with Sherri, but he was best without the crown and with Liz (and that includes Memphis too). Not too terribly fond of his half of the promo, but that's more a problem with the WWF's "every single word must hammer home the gimmick" promo style that precious few people avoided back then. Sherri had a good time for herself, as usual.
September 28, 20159 yr comment_5701123 Savage and Sherri just ooze confidence and charisma. Looking forward to seeing more of them on the set.
October 13, 20159 yr comment_5704257 One of my biggest wrestling black holes (of many) is the Rock 'n' Wrestling era of WWF. I had just started watching wrestling in 1990 and it was NWA/WCW. And while I know most of the characters I've really seen very little of the product itself. I guess this is kind of the end of that period, but still, this is all very new and exciting.
November 25, 20168 yr comment_5776605 The Queen is looking resplendent in her lovely gold dress! There is no-one more suited to the Royal Rumble than royalty, Savage tells us, and the likes of the Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper and even Andre the Giant will fall to the Macho King! Sherri warns Sapphire not to stick her nose in her business when they are both on the Brother Love show at the Rumble.
July 17, 20178 yr comment_5807543 I think WWF/E always had a great record at the "King" gimmick whenever they resuscitated it (King Booker, for instance) but Macho is the all-time best at it. 100% committed, Sherri being great alongside him, even though they were around the middle of the deck at the time. Typically strong promo from the two where they just leap off the screen and more solid Rumble hype from the WWF.
