This is the NAWA in Texas, not the George Scott promotion. Live wrestling every Tuesday night at the Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas!

First I rolled my eyes at the description of the Longhorn Ballroom as "legendary" but holy Christ is there some history to that place. Built by Bob Wills. Once owned by Jack Ruby. Anybody who was anybody in country music performed there. The fucking Sex Pistols somehow got booked there and antagonized the audience until a woman assaulted Sid Vicious. 2 Live Crew started a mini-riot there once. Oh, and it hosted NAWA wrestling.

Yeah, thanks for the history. I can see why they try to push it big that they were holding their shows there.

Way to have an original slogan, Raul's Mexican Food. How many hours did it take to come up with "You've tried the rest, now try the best"?

Did this commercial actually air during a USWA broadcast? If so, I'll bet Jarrett and Lawler weren't too happy to say the least.

 

Whatever happened to the NAWA, if anyone knows? It couldn't have lasted too long, because I've never heard of it.

I'm stoked on Raul's Mexican Food. I imagine they serve up platters like in the gatefold of ZZ Top's Tres Hombres.

I don’t recognise either of the wrestlers in the clips used to advertise this so I would imagine this is a pretty low level federation.

Meltzer reported quite a bit about NAWA at the time. Apparently they were drawing larger cards than USWA could even dream of in Dallas. Mostly because of the venue and atmosphere. I think Dave reported that they did a show earlier in the evening and allowed kids in and it pissed off the regulars so that show actually did worse. I also remember they were trying to get Tully in around this time but I don't know if they ever did.
