Posted June 27, 200520 yr comment_2676375 Coming off the high that was the great 6/23/05 Eddy vs. Rey Jr. Smackdown match, I was thinking about this a little over the weekend. I think a really nice 2 disc set could be made from the two best WWE workers of the past 2 years. Here are my thoughts for matchlistings (btw, should have a DVD of the recent Smackdown match this week so the video package will also need added): Eddy Guerrero vs. Big Show (4/15/04 - Smackdown) Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Jamie Noble (5/1/04 - Velocity) Eddy Guerrero vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (5/16/04 - Judgement Day) Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Chavo Guerrero (6/28/04 - Great American Bash) Eddy Guerrero vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (6/28/04 - Great American Bash) Eddy Guerrero vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (7/15/04 - Smackdown) Eddy Guerrero vs. Rey Misterio Jr. (6/23/05 - Smackdown) We would need one-two more matches to round out a 2 disc set since I don't think it is feasible to crush all those matches into 2 hours. I haven't seen their Judgement Day 2005 match but have seen the WM match (which is not worthy). Word is they will be having a 2/3 falls match on TV/PPV soon, so that would be the final match for this set. Tim
June 27, 200520 yr comment_2676398 I think Eddy's title defense against Rey from Smackdown just after Wrestlemania XX would be a great inclusion as well. That match was Samurai/Otani WWE-style.
June 27, 200520 yr comment_2676492 OK, I have the DVDs of the PPV matches. That is easy. I am going to pick up Judgment Day when it is released so I'll have that match as well. I still think we need to hunt far and wide for better copies of the 2004 SD! matches.
June 27, 200520 yr Author comment_2676558 Should include the match then Loss definetly. I am looking for some Smackdown sources but it is tough because that show was considred "horrible" at the time with the push of JBL so many tuned out. Tim
June 27, 200520 yr comment_2676749 Just as a note, Meltzer reported that the SD! house show match in Manchester last week was supposed to be off the charts, going 20+ minutes. It could have been just a test run for the SD! match but gives us something to keep an eye out for.
June 28, 200520 yr Author comment_2689944 Hey Loss, Will you tell me a little bit more about the Eddy as Champ vs. Rey match from TV in 2004? The Samurai/Otani comment PEAKED my interest. Tim
June 28, 200520 yr comment_2693351 Haven't seen it since it aired on TV, but if memory serves me correctly, it basically plays out like Otani/Samurai in that Rey has Eddy beaten on more than occasion, but has a tendency to show off when he should be going for the kill, and it ends up costing him in the end. Most of the match, like Otani/Sammy, takes place on the mat, with Eddy working over Rey's arm the entirety of the match en route to a submission. It's very much the same style as far as Eddy's strategy equaling Samurai's strategy of completely destroying a body part and there are comparisons between Rey and Otani as well. It's still wrestled in WWE style, so it's obviously different, but there are striking similarities. BTW, Eddy and Chavo had a cage match on SD in what was Eddy's first title defense on the SD after No Way Out that may be worth looking into as well. I didn't see it, but it may be worth seeking out.
July 1, 200520 yr Author comment_2725993 from the Japan show today: "7. Rey Misterio Jr. defeated Eddy Guerrero in 27 minutes, 15 seconds with the 619/Springboard Leg Drop finishing sequence for the win. After the match, Eddy tried to provoke Ricky Steamboat." 27 minutes, WOW. They need to let them do this without a commercial interuption on TV or PPV. Tim
