- Mentions that Jim Cornette's partner in mixed doubles tennis was a man

- Calls a Butch Reed punch a "soupbone right hand"

 

These are all Jim Ross-centric, but feel free to add any others to this thread from any promotion as you make your way through the footage. While we're making up the rules as we go, this is guaranteed to get people trashed in the future when watching this thing.

Last thing I need is another reason to cave my liver in, but this is a way better excuse than "I had nothing better to do," so I'm in.

I'm trying to remember the year where Ross starting rolling out "game plan" in every match of moderate note.

This could be bad for me. What I don't need is the extra incentive.

Yeah, Ross got right to the point in the tag match. Just about to watch Luger/Flair now and I'm all out of whiskey. Halloween Havoc still looks scary on paper.

I don't even get this crack by Ross. I mean, I get that it's supposed to be one of those hilariously hateful jokes about how Cornette is gay, but...I mean, this doesn't even make sense. If two men are playing tennis, it can't be mixed doubles, no matter whether the partners prefer the company of men or women. Is he trying to say Cornette is transgender? This sounds like something Ross came up with that he thought was hilarious and it just doesn't hold up to even a second of scrutiny.

Eh. It's as much a "Cornette's a pathetic wimp" crack as it is a crack about Cornette the character's orientation (and Jim is expressing rather shockingly heterosexual tendencies on this yearbook). Cornette is so physically weak that he competes on a woman's level because that's all he can do.

Homophobic statement notwithstanding (which I always despise in the mouth of a supposed babyface), it's makes no sense indeed when you had Cornette having a hard on for Woman each time she would show up on the Louisville Slugger. Ross was often unbearable at that point I thought, no matter how good he could be calling a big match.

I actually think Ross' statements about Cornette's weight are much more constant and annoying, not to mention hypocritical. You can be heterosexual (or Nancy-sexual, maybe) and still be a wimp.

 

God help us if JR and Ronnie P. Gossett ever worked for the same outfit (Gossett was also gay, though that was never part of his character that I've seen).

I would add the caveat to finish your drink every time you get an unexpectedly great USWA promo from someone. Two of my favorite promos of the year has been Eddie Marlin right before the USWA tournament and Dave Brown going off on Eddie Gilbert for him saying that Jerry Jarrett pays him extra to put over Jeff.

In 1991, when Gossett (wearing a pink hat) came back to help Jarrett & Fuller neutralize Christopher "Honey" Love in their feud with the PYTs (Randy Rhodes & Eric Fontaine), the implication was basically "You think YOU have the most obnoxious fey-acting overweight manager in wrestling? GUESS AGAIN!"
