Lizmark vs. Enfermero Jr., August 1983

This wasn't perfect. I thought Enfermero blew off the damage to the back a little too quickly and easily, and Lizmark's tope to nowhere didn't even seem to be aimed at Enfermero in the first place. Still, problems like that were few and far between. This had some nice matwork to start, but it got aggressive in a hurry, and both guys looked good laying a hurting on the other. Interestingly, even though it was a more rough and tumble lucha title match than usual, it never felt unsportsmanlike, which was a neat approach to take. Solid nomination.

Kevin von Erich/Mascara Ano 2000/Halcon Ortiz v. Coloso Colosetti/Pirata Morgan/Herodes, 9/23/83

Well, this is a rare treat indeed. I'm probably the biggest Kevin Von Erich fan/apologist on the net, and to see him in this setting - against my beloved Pirata Morgan, no less - is really something. And it's amazing just how easily he fits in, and without really changing anything about his style, either. His freaky athleticism, his crazy matwork (wish we got to see a little more of that, but he did open with his awesome flipping stepover armbar takedown thing that I love), and while he didn't do a ton of brawling, I doubt he'd have much trouble fitting into a good lucha brawl. Really want to see more lucha Kevin after watching this. Our man Pirata comes through with some spectacular Pirata-level bumps, including getting slammed over the top rope to the floor by Ortiz. There were also some fun supporting performances from MA2K, who works a much more athletic style than I'm used to from his later career, and the impressive bumping of the portly Herodes.

That all being said, despite this being a match made in heaven for me....I'm gonna pass on it. It basically comes down to two things. One is that, while there is a lot of spectacular rudo bumping, I didn't think there was a lot of spectacular rudo offense. It was a lot of fun watching them get beat on in the first fall, but when they took over in the second, I expect more from these guys than I got. Secondly, the third fall barely even happened, and I feel we're missing a proper third act, which will pretty much always kill a match for me. I mean, the ending we got looked good, but it was very abrupt and jarring for me. Between those two issues, I'm reluctant to support this as a nomination, as much as I wanted to based on the line-up, but it was definitely worth watching.

MS-1 vs. Sangre Chicana, 9/23/83

I had only seen this once before, but it was online in such bad quality that I could barely follow it. I finally got to see it in decent quality and....yeah, you guys aren't kidding. It will be hard - bordering on impossible - for something to top this as my #1.

Espectro Jr./Satanico/MS1 v. Mocho Cota/Sangre Chicana/La Fiera, 9/30/83

I'm not even sure this thing had a real ending, and I'm still gonna back it as a slam dunk nomination. This starts off with the Infernales Swarm, which is one of my favorite things in wrestling ever, and it is at it's most vicious here. Then the technicos start to come back, spear-headed by a bloody Mocho Cota, and then it just turned into this whirlwind of violence that I could barely even keep up with, and when it was all over, Chicana and his crew stood triumphant. That was fucking transcendent, man.

Also, there is some degree of darkness throughout the disc I'm watching this on, though not to the point that any of it is unwatchable. I don't know if better VQ of these matches exists, but I don't know if I want a brighter version of this match, as there's this one shout of Espectro Jr. where most of his mask is blacked-out except for the eyes and mouth, and it's kinda creepy and awesome.

Lizmark v El Satanico, 12/02/83

This is certainly good enough to make a set. But I would agree that it's underwhelming given who's involved. A solid nomination, but not much more.
