February 1, 201312 yr Author comment_5532434 They show recent clips of Sgt. Slaughter burning the Hogan poster and assaulting a medic after a squash. This is capped off by a Hogan promo.
March 5, 201312 yr comment_5537878 Okerlund way overstates the despicability of Slaughter torching the Hulk poster--more indication that they really, really wanted that to be a U.S. flag. A much more fun angle follows as Sarge beats up Dale Wolfe after a squash and then beats down a medic for good measure. Slaughter may as well have dumped a million gallons of oil on all his Little Hulksters, brother! I'm liking Slaughter's performances, even the distasteful ones, but Hogan is absolutely coming off as phony and jingoistic. If anything, Sarge is downplaying the Iraqi allegiance and Hogan is doing his best to keep it in the forefront. So who's being distasteful?
March 22, 201312 yr comment_5539670 Yeah, Gene was overboard there on a poster being lit on fire. We get to see some of the Slaughter rules as he beats up a ringside medic who was trying to assist a jobber who was beat up by Sarge.
May 19, 201312 yr comment_5544990 I liked this update as it showed Slaughters new rules and Hulk responds vowing revenge. I agree that you can tell they wanted to do the flag as even Hogan alludes that Slaughter setting the poster on fire was the equivalent of doing that.
June 18, 201312 yr comment_5548276 The medic appeared to be WCW job guy Chris Sullivan. I dont know many of today's movie stars, but, goddammit, I can recognize TV wrestling job guys from the 90s.
April 27, 201510 yr comment_5666270 The Hogan promo is nothing new, but it says something that Vince and Piper sell more outrage over the "medic" being beaten than they do over Hogan's T-shirt being burned a week later. Could Vince have possibly known that he'd gone too far and wanted to soft-pedal the T-shirt burning to avoid outrage from fans and advertisers over the comparisons between the shirt and the American flag? Mean Gene continues to be this match's best salesman. His disgust at Sarge's actions is palpable, much more so than that of the other announcers. A tremendous job from someone who too few people take seriously.
