Posted November 29, 201113 yr comment_5489238 Tonight on Episode 9, Dylan and I run down the career and overall awesomeness of Ken Patera Wrestling Culture Episode 9- Ken Patera For Emperor of the Universe
November 29, 201113 yr comment_5489241 I wanna thank Dave for letting me rant on this show. For those who have been looking at my Ken Patera thread and saying "fuck that I'm not reading all that shit" this is a good summary. Musgrave gets in another really great Von Erich joke by the way
November 29, 201113 yr comment_5489244 Link to the near riot Steamboat match I mentioned on the show. Link to "Ken Patera's Feats of Strength" angle with Tony Atlas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDHos_Piqu0 The Sheiks are born angle with Heenan selling Patera and clips of the title win v. The High Flyers
November 29, 201113 yr Author comment_5489300 Patera takes on the man would later be his manager as Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissie
December 1, 201113 yr comment_5489464 Dylan made a really effective case for Patera to be considered in different terms from what he usually is on this. I have to admit that I'm a guy who'd written him off for sure. In particular because he delivered the worst promo in the history of wrestling, it's laugh out loud funny:
December 5, 201113 yr comment_5489701 That was a really fun show. I'm really starting to look forward to the AWA set now.
December 5, 201113 yr comment_5489723 Another excellent show. It brought back memories of when Ken Patera called me when I was a junior in high school. Patera ran some shows in small town Minnesota in the late 90s using the AWA moniker. High school athletic clubs and other organizations would book Patera and the "AWA" as fundraisers. I tried getting my high school to bring them in, but it never happened. Patera was real gruff on the phone, but in a nice way (if that makes any sense). I went to three of Patera's "AWA" shows. A couple were in a small town gym not far from my hometown and another was in a bar with a ceiling so low that the workers couldn't use the top rope or safely execute a back body drop. The talent included Wild Bill Irwin, Lenny Lane, Horace the Psychopath and, of course, Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissie.

Doink, Jim Brunzell, Iron Shiek, Bill Irwin, Derrick Dukes all listed as featured. My tapes are listed as "Ken Patera's All-Star Wrestling Alliance".
December 5, 201113 yr comment_5489738 Nice. I don't remember Patera's name being on the marquee at all, but I could just be forgetting. Every show I went to started with some sort of angle involving Patera forcing Al-Kaissie and Irwin to wrestle someone in the main event.....I think once it was Lenny Lane and the other times I can't remember. You don't have any footage from Pierz, MN by chance? (A bustling metropolis of about 300 people in central Minnesota)
December 6, 201113 yr Author comment_5489769 Thanks for the feedback guys. We're planning a show for tomorrow night, hopefully with a guest.
