Ron Starr's look here is classic. Kind of like Van Hammer dressing up as a GI Joe character. I also loved how he kept posturing early like he was a tough motherfucker, and then backing off in fear every time Invader closed space or bumped him around. Starr also worked really tight with his forearms and early there were a couple of really cool exchanges, including a flash arm whip/escape thingie from Invader and Starr doing this great leaping stomp to the head of Invader on a drop down rope running exchange. I know that sounds really simple, but it was done in such a way where it looked like he was going to go with the flow, then caught himself and just dropped the bomb instead. Invader ends up on the floor and this woman dressed to the nines, with Glamour Shots hair runs from the back, decks Invader with a wooden chair and busts him open. Invader is really awesome here stumbling around with this concussed look in his eye, dripping blood and collapsing into a pile of chairs. Invader struggles back into the ring, leaving behind a massive mess of chairs that was the front row and this turns into a great slugfest. Invader is chucking out huge forearms and Starr fights back with jabs right to the cut. Then Invader throws this wild lariat, followed shortly after by a double lariat that knocked both guys out. This led to a lengthy parity exchange with both guys barely evading big blows from the other. Invader ends up going for a big crossbody counter, but Starr gets out of the way and crushes him with a big jumping DDT for the decisive finish. This was pretty awesome.

The clip occurs at around 6:33 with the commercial break. When they come back, at the 7:48 mark they mention that they announced the 15 minute time mark. That means that around 7 minutes are clipped here. At 13:47 Moyano mentions that it's impressive that the match has been going on for around 25 minutes, although I don't see an obvious clip. That means either there is another clip in the match, he's throwing out a half assed time estimate based on feeling or the time announcements are slightly goosed. I think it's just a half assed time estimate. The match itself ends around 15:37 of the video. So, that means that there is 15 and half minutes of a 22-24 minute match. That may be enough.

I'll include a match recap:

This is the finals of the tournament to crown the first ever Television champion. The tournament was in round robin format and these two men are the top two in points. Invader is the reigning Puerto Rico champ and Ron Starr is co-holder of the North American tag titles. No time limit, No DQ, there must be a winner. Hugo says at the start that Ron Starr has an advantage because he is a rudo and since its no DQ he will look to cheat. Invader dominates the early going and I have a real WTF moment at 2:35 when Hugo says that Rep. Fernando Tonosis at ringside cheering on Invader and asks the director to focus on him (the guy with Savio in IWA in the 2000's was a legit representative and had hair!?!) . As Invader works the hammerlock, Hugo mentions the people sitting in the rows at ringside (the people that purchase the Passport passes for the Aniversario event which gave them ringside seats for all three days of the event), they had to scramble from their seats in due to Abdullah in the previous match, but thy are back in them and Hugo wants the director to show them in a wide shot. The commentators also mention the prestige of being the TV champ (since the TV champ will represent Capitol Sports on their TV program that is transmitted in other countries) and the additional money being the champion will bring the winner.

At the 5 minute mark, Invader tries for a heart punch but Ron quickly bails. Ron gets back in and almost gets his DDT, but Invader counters. We go to commercial at around 6:30 with Ron in control, but come back to Invader going after Ron and being tossed outside. An unknown woman shows up and hits Invader over the head with a chair. The commentators have no clue who she is. Invader is busted open. Ron celebrates and it he's bleeding too. At 7:48, Moyano says that they've announced we are at 15 minutes. Ron goes outside and rams Invader's face into the commentators table. Ron chokes him with a electric cable and heads back to the ring. Invader staggers up as the announcers are worried that Invader should not continue. They mention that some blood has splattered on them when Invader was rammed into their table. Ron goes after the staggering Invader and they are in the seats, where Ron lays out Invader. The announcers continue to express their concern that Invader looked to not be in any shape to continue. The referee checks on invader, who eventually gets to his feet and staggers to the ring. They exchange blows and both men are spent. Eventually, both men clothesline each other and the ref starts counting. Both men get, up, but again they collide and go down again. Ron goes for the pin and Invader kicks out. They exchange blows again but they are slow to move since they are spent. Sunset flip by Ron and Invader kicks out again. They tussle some more and both men miss elbow drops. Once again, the referee starts counting both men out. As both men get up and start exchanging punches, Hugo is still pondering who the mystery woman was and if Ron Starr was behind the attack. Eventually, Invader misses a body press and Ron Starr hits his DDT. He gets the pin and wins the TV title. As Ron celebrates with he title, the announcers ponder if Invader would have won sans the chair attack by the mystery woman.

First of all, I appreciate Boricua for clearing up the time on this because his work made this a slam dunk. I thought this match was holy shit level great. We get the opening exchanges for about seven minutes and it's all awesome, nifty counters by both guys with Starr going to the floor for breaks. I loved Invader's cool ass ways of getting in arm drags and hammerlocks. My favorite was when Starr was measuring him up with these awesome punches and Invader counters the DDT into an arm drag/hammerlock combo. That ruled. The last spot before the clip was great too as it was this rope running section where Ron Starr cuts off Invader with a stomp to the chest mid-run. The clip is a little frustrating in that we miss when and how Starr got cut open. However, I would venture to guess the majority of the seven minutes we missed was a long face shine possibly with some stalling from Starr. After the clip, we have Invader getting tossed to the floor and Peaches coming out and walloping Invader with a chair busting him open. The heat for this is great as the fans are livid. Invader is incredible here selling at a tremendous level with these glazed eyes and expressionless face. Starr stalks him with boots to the head, chokes him with production wire, and smashes his head on the production table. There's this great spot where Invader is stumbling around, trying to find his way back to the ring when he decides to sit on a chair in the front row and just collapses in it and falls back in this pathetic way. Starr then puts insult to injury and smashes his head against another chair in the front row. Invader finally makes his way into the ring and gets a massive pop for it. His punches and strikes in his comeback are fucking bombs and it's awesome. Both guys are staggering around and bleeding buckets selling their asses off. We get two collision spots and both times the crowd goes nuts for Invader. Ron Starr gets a near fall off of a back drop suplex. We get more headbutts, punches, and shit from both guys as they are selling the blood loss. Invader finally gets a burst of energy and goes for a springboard cross body but Starr moves out of the way and then hits the DDT for the win. This is a top ten contender and maybe even a top five contender. There's plenty of the match for it to be on the set and if it was in full it could be a contender for top three. Yeah, EASY nomination.

WWC TV Title Tournament - Finals: The Invader vs. "Rambo" Ron Starr (9/19/86)

Good back and forth action to start with Invader showing lots of fire. We get a clip before the match returns with Invader on the floor where he gets nailed with a chair by Peaches forcing Invader to juice. Starr is already juicing which we missed before the break. Starr pounds on Invader throughout ringside throwing him into chairs and just beating his ass. The crowd goes nuts as Invader tries to make a comeback but Starr is relentless working over Invader and eventually hits a DDT to get the win. Since this didn't have as big of a clip and with the Boricua stuff, this is a definite nomination.
