Posted February 11, 201312 yr comment_5534627 This starts out with Stud & The Flame who was pissed that Bullet Bob was going to show tape of him ripping off his mask. The Rat Patrol (Steve Armstrong & Johnny Rich) vs. Chris Jarvis & Steve Struggs (6/8/85) Competitive squash with Rich hitting one of the best missile dropkicks I've ever seen. This is followed up Nightmares coming out talking over clips against the Rat Patrol. Next we get promos for the first ever Continental Championship Wrestling show on 6/10/85 with Ash, Nightmares, & Rat Patrol. Boomer H. Lynch vs. Al Scott (6/8/85) Squash. Next we get promos with Ash & Lynch who doesn't want to be in the ring with black men. Amazing. Then we get clips of a match between Lynch & Cash with Lynch saying that Chops' head is illegal. Then we get a promo by Bullet Bob with Humongous with a retort by Flair who was with Schiavone. Flair is fucking great here setting up the Stud who is fun too. Scott Armstrong vs. Tommy Crosby (6/8/85) Squash. Bullet Bob comes out with the film of the Flame who comes out but Humongous & Idol come out as well to hold off the Studs. The tape is then shown and Flame gets unmasked but you don't see his face. Next we get promos from Lynch, Golden, & Idol who was wearing a tanktop with a bowtie....awesome. Lynch says that Porkchop looks like an ape. Lord Humongous vs. Lynn Burt (6/8/85) Total squash. Stud comes out with the picture of Humongous but Bullet steals it and there is nothing there. Then we get promos by Stud, Flame, & Bullet w/Humongous. Charlie Platt then signs off for his last show for the next 2 1/2 years and the last ever show from the WTVY Studios in Dothan. Now this is what I'm talking about CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING with Gordon Solie and Mike Jackson as the ring announcer at Boutwell Auditorium. Solie starts out the new show with Flair and this feels important. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. Josh Stroud (6/10/85) Spotlight match for Flair. Next we get a Bob Armstrong video to Bad to the Bone which is great. Then we get promos by Flame, Stud, & Bullet w/Humongous. The Flame vs. Jason Walker (6/10/85) Squash. Next we get promos by Scott Armstrong, Chops, Lynch, & Ash. "Tennessee Stud" Ron Fuller vs. Larry Clarke (6/10/85) Squash. Nightmares are out next with Solie giving them their Southeastern belts back where they show clips of a cage match between the Nightmares & Rat Patrol where it's announced that Tommy Rich is coming in to avenge Johnny's injury. Steve Armstrong then cuts a promo next with Tommy Rich sending in a taped promo from All-South of all things with Nightmares giving a retort. Southeastern Heavyweight Title: "Gorgeous" Jimmy Golden © vs. "Universal Heartthrob" Austin Idol (6/10/85) Idol dominates early while Solie talks about going to lunch with future NFL HOFer Larry Little where they discussed Idol. Golden fights back but it isn't long before Idol makes a comeback and locks on the Las Vegas Leglock but Golden gets in the ropes. Golden tries to pin Idol using the ropes but gets caught and leads to an interesting finish as Idol pins Golden's shoulders down using his legs in a funky finish. Fans go crazy for this and it was a okay match but short. This is followed up by promos from both men. They close the show with clips of a Rat Patrol/Nightmares cage match which looked like a blast. US Jr. Heavyweight Title: Scott Armstrong © vs. Bill Ash (6/17/85) Scott really works a headlock early before Ash finally comes back with some tight shots to the ribs. It picks up with some fun back and forth action both in and outside the ring with Scott getting a sunset flip from the apron back to the ring but Ash cuts it back and grabs the ropes to get the pin. Good little match but not enough for a nomination. Next we get a video for Idol from Memphis to Do You Wanna Touch Me by Joan Jett. Then we get promos by Ash, Golden, & Idol. Southeastern Tag Titles: The Nightmares (Danny Davis & Ken Wayne) vs. Steve Armstrong & "Wildfire" Tommy Rich (6/17/85) This is a war from the bell as Tommy is pissed about Johnny's injury and takes it to the Nightmares who are at their best here bumping and selling like crazy. Tommy is on the mic firing the crowd up as the Nightmares are laid out on the floor and this is some good shit. Such great punches here by the faces and Nightmares are getting steamrolled here. We go to a break with Steve in control but come back with him making the hot tag to Tommy so we missed his FIP but we get Tommy's FIP though which was solid as Nightmares did their switching often. Rich is fun in his hope spots here before getting the tag to Steve which sets up the 4-way brawl where Steve puts the sleeper on one Nightmare while the other comes off the top with a diving axehandle then switches to get the pin. Very fun match and I'm throwing this up as a low-end pick. Next we get promos by Armstrongs & Nightmares. Then Bullet Bob comes out to talk about clips of the cage match with Bob/Humongous vs. Flair/Stud which looked fun. This leads to a workout video from the Flame where he trains at throwing fireballs at pictures of Bullet Bob in the woods. Flame also trains by shooting at said pictures with shotguns and throwing knifes with the payoff being Flame shooting a pistol at the picture at close range saying that death could come at anytime. This is great shit and a slam dunk extra. Lord Humongous vs. Paul Brown (6/17/85) Total squash. Next we get promos by Stud & Flame where Solie proclaims them as new tag champs but they won two singles titles (Alabama & Continental) from Bullet Bob & Humongous who cut a retort promo. Solie starts the next show talking about Boomer H. Lynch tearing all the ligaments in his knee before Stud comes out with his new charge Mr. Class (Ken Timbs.) Mr. Class (Ken Timbs) vs. Porkchop Cash (6/24/85) Solie pimping the USFL here on commentary is awesome. Class works over Chops' left arm viciously early on but Cash fights back using his good arm throwing lots of punches but fails trying to do a monkey flip with help from Stud and Class pins him using the tights. Nothing much going on here. Next we get a video for the Tennessee Stud set to the theme from Chariots of Fire. Definite extra. This is followed up by a promo from the Stud Stable US Jr. Heavyweight Title: Bill Ash © vs. Jason Walker (6/24/85) Ash wins but Walker puts up a fight. Mike Jackson got his crew of jobbers a chance to get offense in in their matches so props to him. Next we get promos by Scott Armstrong, Ash, & Nightmares. "Gorgeous" Jimmy Golden vs. Paul Barnett (6/24/85) Fairly easy win for Golden. This is followed by promos from Steve Armstrong, Tommy Rich, & Nightmares. Stud & Flame are out next narrating clips of a match between Bullet Bob & Flame where Bullet won back the Continental title but paid for it by getting burned by the Flame later on that night. Bullet Bob shows up with his arm bandaged from the burning and said that he won't forfeit his title. Continental Heavyweight Title: Bullet Bob Armstrong © vs. The Flame (6/24/85) This is a war from the start as Bullet comes out firing but Flame uses a steel chair on the bandaged arm to stop him although not for long as Bullet is pumped up and keeps taking it to Flame. Flame knows its desperation time and he loads up the mask before using it to KO Bullet to win the belt back. This doesn't even go 5 minutes but it was fun. Bullet rises back up though and goes for the mask but the rest of the Stable runs out and they go for the injured arm but the other faces finally make the save with Humongous cleaning house. This is followed up by promos from Idol, Bullet, Cash, Humongous, & the Studs. Alabama Heavyweight Title: "Tennessee Stud" Ron Fuller © vs. Lord Humongous (6/24/85) Stud jumps Humongous at the bell and this turns into a lumberjack match basically with the allies surrounding the ring. The show closes before the match is over. "Wildfire" Tommy Rich vs. The Nightmare (Danny Davis) (7/1/85) Rich coming out to Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out For A Hero" is great. Rich is on fire here just throwing bombs and in a fun spot he grabbed the mask while punching like crazy. There was a 2 ring battle royal on this show hence why they worked in 2 rings and it adds extra to the matches I think. Nightmare throws some really great punches here too and this is a total slugfest. There is a double collision leading to the Nightmares switch but it doesn't matter as Wildfire would lock on an inside cradle to get the win. Rich fights off the Nightmares until the numbers game catches up to him before Johnny Rich makes his return and cleans house with his cousin. Fun little match and a fun brawl afterwards warrants a low-end nomination.
