Posted February 17, 201312 yr comment_5535733 Continental Tag Titles: The Southern Boys (Steve Armstrong & Tracy Smothers) © vs. The Nightmares (Danny Davis & Ken Wayne) (5/1/88) This is a babyface match and the action is fast and furious from the start as both teams are bouncing around the ring hitting spots and not doing respect matwork. They go to a break but it doesn't look like we missed much. There were some cool exchanges here with Smothers looking especially sharp. We get another break but again don't miss much and the action continues to be good. The match changed when Armstrong tried a leapfrog and his crotch hit Danny's head. Danny & Smothers checked on him while Wayne stared from the apron wondering what is going on here. The referee called for the bell and the Nightmares won the titles with Wayne celebrating. Davis doesn't want the titles in that way which angers Wayne but he agrees with Davis and gives the belts back to the Southern Boys. This needs to be on the set someway somehow and I'm putting this on the block because the match was damn good before the finish. Need to combine the discs or maybe the match is on another disc. "Dirty White Boy" Tony Anthony vs. Mark Young (5/1/88) Total squash and Young must join the Honor Guard. Next we get promos by Davis & Prichard. Then we get promos by Paul E. & Gilbert followed up by a Hot Stuff video. Next we get Missy Hyatt joining Charlie Platt as the new cohost for CWF. Missy very happily interviews Lawler in the locker room after he beats Curt Hennig for the AWA title which is wild considering the feud that Lawler/Gilbert/Missy had. Missy then interviewed Curt after the loss as well. This is a definite extra for the Lawler comp. Austin Idol makes his return to the territory in a promo here and this is good stuff. "Nightmare" Danny Davis vs. Rikki Nelson (5/14/88) Ken Wayne was supposed to wrestle Nelson but he wasn't there yet so Davis steps in and wins a babyface match. Then we get a promo from Bruno with Demolition & Humongous. Next we get The Southern Boys introducing Shane Douglas to the fans when Davis comes out and tells them to run to the back as DWB & Prichard are having a parking lot brawl. This is a definite extra. Missy then interviews Hot Stuff & Paul E. next and they cry over Dr. Tom. Platt then tries to redo the Douglas/Southern Boys interview which leads to Gilbert coming over to taunt Douglas but Humongous stands between them. Gilbert yells for Bruno and Humongous shoos him away so Gilbert leaves. This is extra material. Next we get DI Bob Carter inducting Mark Young into the Honor Guard as Private Pyle. Young has quite the Dave Meltzer mullet and gets it shaved off by Alan Martin no less. Extra material. Continental Tag Titles: The Southern Boys (Steve Armstrong & Tracy Smothers) vs. DI Bob Carter & Mississippi Voodoo Man (5/14/88) This is run over two shows and isn't much. Danny Davis comes out and talks about the parking lot brawl from the week before with clips shown. Next we get promos by WILLIE B. HERT, Shane, & Dr. Tom. Detroit Demolition (Randy Culley) & Lord Humongous (Sid Vicious) vs. Shane Douglas & Rikki Nelson (5/14/88) Humongous refuses to work against Douglas so Nelson eats everything. Demo was beating on Douglas on the floor but Humongous stopped him so Demo went back in and killed Nelson for the win. Hot Stuff & Paul E. come out next and throw down the $10,000 challenge gauntlet to any person in the building. A "fan" jumps in the ring to answer the call and this fan by the way is John Gillam who is one of Eddie's best friends in life. Gilbert beats him up and this is awesome. Idol comes out to run them off. Slam dunk extra. Idol then cuts a promo about the situation afterwards saying that Gilbert could pick tougher guys. Idol then says that he would put up $10,000 of his own right then and there. "Nightmare" Danny Davis vs. Private Pyle (5/14/88) Mark Young is bald and wearing fatigues with Carter in tow. This is clipped but Davis wins. They start the next show with Joe Pedicino coming out talking about the King of Birmingham. Mr. Olympia vs. Lee Peak (5/22/88) Olympia is back as a babyface and a promo to follow with Olympia & Prichard. Willie B. Hert vs. Private Pyle (5/22/88) The former Pez Whatley coming out to People Get Ready by The Temptations is great. Carter dresses down Pyle after the loss so Hert dropkicks and pins him as well. They would attack Hert afterwards before running off. Continental Tag Titles: The Southern Boys (Steve Armstrong & Tracy Smothers) © vs. The Nightmares (Danny Davis & Ken Wayne) (5/22/88) This is a rematch from a few weeks ago. Tracy is out by himself saying that Steve couldn't make it so Wayne wants the titles. Wayne argues it but agrees to Davis working against Smothers in a singles match for the titles. Very good action to start here with both men refusing to give the advantage. Davis would KO the referee by mistake with a reverse cross body block off the middle rope which allows Wayne to sneak attack Tracy with a board while Davis wasn't looking. Davis pinned Smothers to win and Wayne comes back out celebrating the victory. While Wayne is talking to Missy, Platt tells Davis what happened off mic which angers him. They argue a bit before they walk off. This is a definite extra. Gilbert & Paul E. are out whining about everyone coming for $10,000 until Jack Curtis comes out where they berate him with Paul E. saying that his biggest claim to fame is going to strip club to pick up women saying that he knows wrestlers. This is great. Next we get a promo by Alan Martin & Paul E. Then we get clips of Humongous turning on Downtown Bruno & Alan Martin before Detroit Demolition shows up throwing ink in his eyes.

This is a really strong babyface match which really made me wish that we could have gotten a feud between the 2 teams because they would have torn it up. They cut a really fast paced with tons of exchanges and reversals. All 4 guys look really good here. One spot they were just countering hammerlocks was just awesome. This wasn't your too cute for words work. It was sudden, smartly worked. The finish was blah. I'll throw it down as low-end nomination. Their is a great DWB/Pritchard parking lot brawl that is an extra. The John Gilliam 10,000 challenge is an easy extra. We get a Tracy Smothers and Danny Davis match which furthers the Wayne/Davis split. An extra.
