Posted February 19, 201312 yr comment_5536203 Buddy Rose/Al Madril promo Buddy Rose/Avalanche v. Southern Rockers - 2/3 Falls The announcer claims Col. Debeers has been banned from the U.S. for an attack on Sarge in Memphis. Rose and Avalanche are working as the Beach Bums here in swimming trunks. Lots of solid fat man bumps early, though I question the logic of having The Rockers slam Buddy so easily. There is one rope running spot with Buddy and Peterson that is kind of sad, though I'm not sure the flub was Buddy's fault. Finish to the first fall was okay. Second fall Buddy changed trunks in between falls and uses the string from them to choke Peterson after a near fall on a DDT which I found amusing. I kind of liked the end to this fall which was sloppy but saw Avalanche counter a crossbody with a belly-to-belly. Avalanche hit a huge backbreaker off the ropes which I liked a the jump in the third fall. The announcer is talking about the Madril v. Top Gun match and the angle they ran where Madril supposedly sued to ban kids from getting in for free and now Top Gun is fighting for the kids. Fucking classic. The heels are working the back and it is decent work, but nothing that is going to stand out. They tried to work some bigger heat building spots and they worked to some effect, but the real problem here is that the Southern Rockers just aren't very interesting. I did like the spot with Peterson missing the splash and Buddy eating the knees for a near fall right before the time limit, but that's not getting this on any set. Okay match. Mid fall promo with Southern Rockers and Top Gun. Top Gun wearing the Tuxedo shirt is awesome. Mid fall promo by The Grappler setting up a match with Fujinami. Now that is surreal. Madril promo on Top Gun follows. Then Buddy and Avalanche come over for a promo. Another Top Gun promo Mike Golden v. Steve Doll Don Owen is pumped to see a scientific match with a lot of holds and stuff. I anticipate people hating on Don's intros when this set is released and this is a big fuck you to all of those people because Don Owen is the man. Anyhow this starts off workratey, with a nice rope running exchange, that goes back and fourth with neither guy gaining an advantage. I much prefer this to the 90's equivalent of roll up trading. This is lots of basic hold trading. Nothing terrible, but nothing exciting. Golden accidentally crotches himself on the top rope off of another rope running exchange and Doll refuses to cover him grabbing the house mic and saying he won't take a win this way. This is like the world's least impressive version of Rheingans v. Martel from the AWA Set. Al Madril promo. Grappler/Dien promo. Avalanche v. Scott Peterson - 2/3 Falls Hey you can get your tickets at Sandy Barr's Flea Market! Unbelievable. Avalanche is a good athlete for a guy this size and will take a good bump, but the guy works way too light for a guy that big. What really pisses you off with these shows is that the announcer will run down all these house shows that sound potentially interesting, meanwhile Avalanche clamps on a bearhug that Peterson sells poorly. This ends on DQ Art Barr/Top Gun/Fujinami promo. Fujinami giving a lengthy promo in Japanese while the white suited Don Carson looks on befuddled and Top Gun sells his eye injury is outstanding and might be worth an EXTRA Abudda Dien v. Billy Two Eagles I like that Owen felt the need to point out that Two Eagles was an Indian and Dien was an Arab. Maybe Debeers was backstage and needed clarification. This starts out fast with Two Eagles bumping, then he lands on his feet on a back body drop, bumps Dien big time to the floor and hits a crazy dive to the floor. Back in the ring Two Eagles hits a really nice top rope dropkick for a near fall, but gets cut down in short order. Dien hits a DDT and gets a near fall and then a sick looking hot shot for three. Post-match he locks on the "Oriental Nervehold" and The Southern Rockers make the save. Real shame Two Eagles was treated this way, he was easily the best guy in the promotion at this point. Beach Bums/Al Madril/Grapler/Abudda Dien promo. Matt Borne v. Buddy Rose It's 1988 but Don Carson says Matt Borne is sporting a New Wave haircut. Borne comes out quick, puts Buddy on the defensive and almost kills himself while hitting the big senton off the top. Looks like three when all the heels hit the ring. The faces hit the ring and even it up and it's chaos or as close as it was going to be in Portland at this point. Man this pissed me off. Matt Borne and the faces do a promo. Borne is over the top fired up. Al Madril v. Top Gun - Mexican Death Match This is basically Texas Death rules. Don Owen gets verbally abused pre-match by Madril. Tracking has been questionable all disc, but is probably worse here than any other point. Doesn't really matter because while this started hot, it ended stupid with a foreign object shot behind the refs back in a Death Match. Bullshit. Matt Borne promo. He explains how his scarf determines his mood. Drugs are bad. Top Gun promo. Barry Owen shows up on set and books a Coal Miners Glove with Madril. More Barry Owen booking follows Art Barr v. Rex King It's rookie of the year in Oregon v. rookie of the year in Florida according to Don Owen. The tracking was awful on this and this was pretty bad anyway. Boring hold trading and the holds didn't look sharp and weren't worked interestingly. Wasn't a single good spot in the match. Trash. Madril/Grappler/Dien promo Buddy Rose/Avalanche v. Billy Two Eagles/Mike Golden Man Two Eagles is a ton of fun. This just made me want to see Billy work Buddy during their respective primes. The tracking was really awful on this one too which is too bad because what was there was a pretty decent match, with some fun spots, good heeling and solid bumps. The finish was stupid. Beach Bums promo. Buddy blowing the lid on The Assassin here was pretty funny. Abudda Dien v. Matt Borne "We have less than one minute of television wrestling time left" - then why the fuck is this on tv? Fucking stupid. Southern Rockers promo. Man Peterson is awful.
