Posted February 20, 201312 yr comment_5536293 This is from the Boston Gardens and it is pre-injury angle. The bout starts out with Savage doing a little stalling to generate heat. They get going and Steamboat is going after the arm. He does some real neat ways to get to the arm like using a drop toe hold to get to it, and I think I saw him use an ankle pick to get to the arm. Then we see Steamboat crank the arm, drop some knees on the arm. Overall some neat arm work. Savage transitions on offense and does a good job of selling his arm while he takes it to Steamboat. He gives Steamer a clothesline with the arm that Steamboat worked over and sells like it got shot. Savage does some nice Memphis imaginary foreign object spots. I eat this stuff with a spoon. We get some near falls down the stretch. Then Savage goes for his Axe handle to the floor and misses. He sells like he broke his ankle. Shitty finish aside this was a good match.
June 2, 2025Jun 2 comment_6030650 Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat (Boston 11/1/86) - Steamboat is putting in work going in and out of the armbar. Some really great stuff including pin attempts and near falls. Savage gets trapped in the ropes and Steamboat attacks. Once free, they go through more near falls and Steamboat back to the arm. Savage’s mysterious object changes the tide and Steamer is blinded. Great selling by Savage as he hits a clothesline that hurts Ricky but damages his arm even more. Outside, Savage slams Ricky on the hard floor. The crowd is really behind Ricky. Man, every time you think Savage is in control, Ricky escapes and hits some near falls. Savage goes for the axe handle on the floor, misses and hurts his knee. This allows Ricky to beat the count and get in the ring. Dumbass Ricky Steamboat should know he didn’t win that belt lol. After the match, Ricky throws Savage back in the ring and attacks him and gets a moral 3 count. Great match. EASY NOMINATION.
