Posted February 28, 201312 yr comment_5537306 This is the 1st episode of Southeastern Championship Wrestling in the Alabama circuit as they have taken over the old Gulf Coast area now and this the beginning of a new era. This is more of a recap show and introducing talent. Bullet Bob Armstrong vs. The Superstar (October 1980) This definitely isn't Bill Eadie. Next we get a video for Tony Charles which was really cool in a late 70's way. Extra material. Then we get a promo from Bullet Bob about coming back into the area. "Continental Lover" Eddy Mansfield vs. Reggie Simpson (October 1980) Good ol Eddy who couldn't get a fair break from the NWA but he got pushes in various territories. Next we get an AWESOME video for the Mongolian Stomper that starts with Gorgeous George Jr. on a fucking sweet 70's couch. Les Thatcher narrates this video and it's so great. They show Stomper fucking breaking a cinder block over Jos LeDuc's head. Slam dunk extra. Then we get a personality profile with Bullet Bob. Charlie Cook & Ricky Gibson vs. The Big C's (Don Carson & ?) (October 1980) Big C's are masked here and Don Carson is wearing that huge black leather glove he loved to wear. The match here was pretty decent for a TV match with a botched finish as Cook was supposed to cradle Carson but it didn't work out the best. Next we get a promo from Cook. Then we get a promo from the Tennessee Stud who said that he doesn't wrestle on TV and got them to clear out the studio since no one was worthy of seeing him. Ron was awesome talking about how great he was. Extra material. Next we get another fun promo this time by the Continental Lover who calls guys jabronis. The next show starts with the debut of Les Thatcher and they are still using the old Gulf Coast Wrestling signboard. US Jr. Heavyweight Title: Jerry Stubbs © vs. Ricky Gibson (10/7/80) This is from Expo Hall in Mobile and Stubbs comes out blazing trying to finish off Gibson. Gibson would get various nearfalls off of body presses and cradles but Stubbs would somehow kick out and kept the overall advantage. Stubbs would miss a big diving elbow drop off the middle rope which now gave Gibson the chance he needed to get the advantage but a missed dropkick put Stubbs back in the game until a ref bump. Stubbs would use this to throw Gibson over the top rope to the floor and when Gibson came back in the ring Stubbs used a rolling body scissors and the ropes to get the win. Fun little match. Next we get a promo by the Stud about the Alabama Heavyweight Title tournament. Then we get a promo by Robert Fuller & Jos LeDuc about winning the Southeastern tag titles from the Big C's. Iron Mike Masters vs. Charles Odem (October 1980) Masters also worked as Rocky Jones. Competitive match. Next we get a personality profile with the Stud and Les brings out a surprise in Robert Fuller who is also in the Alabama tournament. Ron then says that he is going to quit wrestling in the territory if Robert works there. Extra material. Charlie Cook vs. Mongolian Stomper (October 1980) Big C (Don Carson) is now managing Stomper and they would be together for the next few years. Cook really works over Stomper here and I love they are putting over how Stomper can't take noises in the ring on commentary. The match goes to a double countout and it was okay for what it was. Then we get a promo by Stubbs about being in the Alabama title tournament. Stan Frazier & Jos LeDuc vs. The Big C's (Don Carson & ?) (October 1980) Frazier & LeDuc as a babyface team is wild. Another fun TV match that's all action and LeDuc rips off Big C #1's mask as Don Carson. LeDuc juices here as Carson pounds him with that glove with Frazier tied up in the ropes until Robert Fuller runs out to clean house. Fun angle. Next we get a promo with Fuller & LeDuc about the Alabama title tournament. It was announced at the end of the show that Ron Bass was coming back to the area for revenge on LeDuc. “Outlaw” Ron Bass & The Super Pro (Randy Rose) vs. Ray Harris & Roy Lee Welch (11/8/80) Competitive squash. Super Pro slaps an injured Brad Armstrong who was doing commentary leading to Bob coming out for a brawl with Pro & Bass. Pro loads up his mask headbutting Bob who juices until Jos LeDuc makes the save. Mongolian Stomper vs. Charlie Cook (11/8/80) Stan Frazier does commentary here. Cook puts up a good fight here but eats the loaded boot by the Stomper to lose. "Outlaw" Ron Bass & The Super Pro (Randy Rose) vs. Charlie Cook & Charles Odem (11/15/80) Competitive match especially when Cook was in the ring. Next we get promos from Don Carson, Robert Fuller, & Jos LeDuc.
February 28, 201312 yr comment_5537361 Yeah that Stomper video is phenomenal. They also used that video in Georgia when he was coming into the territory. I think George may have bought him into Georgia but was gone fairly quickly. I know Don Carson was Stomper's manager for awhile when he was the Georgia National champion in late 1980. Don Carson and Gorgeous George Jr seemed to switch off being Stomper's manager for years. That video is everything that was so great about the old territories. Here is the video for those who have never seen it, this time they are using it in Memphis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaAdJhB6vSw
