NWA World Heavyweight Title: "Nature Boy" Ric Flair © vs. "Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff (1/29/87)

This is from Los Angeles. Flair got quite a bit of offense in here and even used the scaffold around the ring at one point as a weapon. Nikita brought his standard offense and did a decent job of selling for him especially setting up the figure-four but I think the Los Angeles crowd hurt here as they weren't really behind Nikita. Flair got the figure-four on Nikita but Nikita would reverse it and took it to the floor where he posted Flair which brought out the juice which was needed here. Nikita then gets the crowd behind him finally on his comeback as he worked over Flair's cut before locking on his own figure-four which looked way better than The Miz's. We would get Nikita nearfalls then Flair shoving Tommy Young who stood behind Nikita while smiling to the crowd before Nikita hit the Russian Sickle. Tommy Young would count out Flair but saw his foot on the bottom rope after the count and restarted the match. Flair baits Nikita in and sweeps him using his feet on the ropes to pin him but Young catches it and kicks them off. Nikita would go for another Russian Sickle but Flair would duck and backdropped Nikita over the top rope for the DQ in a shitty finish. This was probably the best Flair/Nikita match I've seen and even with the subpar crowd I think this is a solid nomination.

I'll go with the solid nomination. I agree this might be the best matchup between the 2. It's clearly the template to the Luger Starcade 88 match. Even down to Nikita working Flair's arm, and using the Fig 4, and no selling spots. I loved Flair's viciousness here. The fish hooking of Nikita was particularly nasty. Another good spot was Flair using the scaffold to balace himself on the middle of the top rope to deliver a flying ax handle. But boy that finish was un creative.

This has to be different that the Supertowns match. This is what you said about the Supertowns match.

No DQ Match for the NWA World Heavyweight Title: "Nature Boy" Ric Flair © vs. "Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff (1/11/87)

Fun match with Flair doing his normal schtick but he added some different stuff such as using a piledriver which Nikita no-sold as Tony preached that it was an illegal move in a regular match. Nikita breaking out the figure-four was nice and the crowd was going nuts for this. The crowd here was the hottest one on the whole show mainly because they were in Charlotte. We get the customary ref bump even in a no DQ match which makes no sense so Nikita could hit his Russian Sickle off the middle rope. Tully would show up to attack Nikita with Flair rolling over him but it's a nearfall. Flair is juicing here and hurts himself trying to get Nikita over the top rope so this turns into a brawl on the floor with Tully & Dusty getting involved as the match ends in a double countout. No nomination.
