Posted March 30, 201312 yr comment_5540296 Iron Sheik & "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff vs. Matt Borne & Nick DeCarlo (December 1980) Sheik has a fucking sword around his body and Koloff has a big red shovel and they look menacing. Total squash with an awesome spot here as Sheik picked up DeCarlo for a side suplex and hit Koloff directly in the back of the head pissing him off. The heels have a shoving match afterwards and this was the setup for their rare heel vs. heel feud. "Bad Boy" Bobby Duncum & "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff vs. NicK DeCarlo & Ron Ritchie (December 1980) Koloff was a beast here as he was in terrific shape and was all over the ring. NWA World TV Title: Roddy Piper © vs. Matt Borne (December 1980) This would be a main event in Portland but it's just a TV match here. Piper has the bagpipes and plays again with Crockett noting that the bell rang before he played the pipes so he was killing time doing it. Lots of amateur style work early before Piper catches Borne in the air and gives him a vicious Hot Shot. Piper picks him up and drops him again then taunts him. Piper is a total prick here as he just destroys Borne inside and outside the ring even bodyslamming him on the concrete floor. Piper is nuts and gets DQed by Roughhouse Fargo who stands toe to toe with Piper which that would've been a battle. "Bad Boy" Bobby Duncum & "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff vs. Steve Muslin & Ron Ritchie (12/23/80) This is a very rare JCP TV taping from an arena specifically Dorton Arena in Raleigh during this period. They normally taped at WRAL Studios in Raleigh but the arena atmosphere made it all better. NWA World TV Title: Roddy Piper © vs. Frank Monte (12/23/80) Piper is pissed because he wants to play the bagpipes but there is no mic in the ring. The ring announcer gives in and puts the mic up to him and he plays with the fans booing heavily. Monte puts up a fight here and the crowd is into it but Piper would eventually snap and put Monte away quickly with a swinging neckbreaker. "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka & Ray "The Crippler" Stevens vs. Frank Monte & Tony Tossi (January 1981) The highlight of this match is David Crockett is calling this with a head cold and his voice sounds very deep. NWA World TV Title: Roddy Piper © vs. Don Kernodle (January 1981) Piper has quite the green scarf on here. Kernodle is pesky as hell here giving Piper fits and has Piper stalling a little to kill time. Kernodle fires off forearms and chops like crazy that has Piper reeling before Piper comes back in the ring and snaps finally teeing off on Kernodle but Don fights back and has Piper reeling again. Don makes a mistake though allowing Piper to dropkick him in the back where he hit all turnbuckle and then Piper finished him off with a swinging neckbreaker. This was actually a pretty good TV match and I'm throwing this on the block. Bruno Sammartino Jr. vs. Ricky Ferrara (January 1981) David worked as Bruno Jr. for the first few years of his career and he got a small push in every territory he went to off the name. "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff, "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka, & Ray "The Crippler" Stevens vs. Ron Ritchie, Dewey Robertson, & George Wells (January 1981) Always funny seeing Dewey before he became The Missing Link. Ricky Steamboat vs. Charlie Fulton (January 1981) Steamer with that mustache was always funny. Another fun little Steamer TV match. Bruno Sammartino Jr. vs. Jim Nelson (February 1981) Nelson would become Boris Zuhkov. Decent match. "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka vs. Ron Ritchie (February 1981) Snuka was just awesome here...jacked to the gills and a beast. Snuka just nukes him with the Superfly Splash to win. Mr. Fuji & Genichiro Tenryu vs. Abe Jacobs & Ron Ritchie (February 1981) COOL seeing the Fuji & Tenryu team here. Tenryu has grown since working as a jobber on TV the year before although he almost kills Ritchie by botching a backdrop allowing Ritchie to fall head first on the mat. Ritchie keeps going here to his credit and takes a pounding before getting the tag to Jacobs who gets in some offense really working over Tenryu's left leg totally stretching the quad in a nasty spot. Abe would go for the KIWI ROLL!!!!!!!! but Tenryu got the ropes and hit an enzuigiri before tagging in Fuji who finished him off with the Samoan Drop. Too bad we didn't see the Kiwi Roll proper because that move looked like it hurt like hell. Next we get a Steamer/Snuka match that is JIP and it's good stuff and the match goes without a finish as TV time runs out. Roddy Piper vs. Ron Ritchie (4/1/81) Harley Race is in the area and does commentary here and the disc runs out before the end.
