Posted May 8, 201312 yr comment_5544275 This starts with clips of the Last Tango in Tampa which was main evented by Race vs. Dusty for the NWA title on 8/3/80 at Tampa Stadium. This went to an hour draw with Fritz Von Erich as the referee and Solie joined by Boyd Pierce on commentary. This was a very historic match and the angle afterwards was that Dusty said that Harley couldn't beat him so he would not wrestle him again for the NWA title. Harley would get pissed at this because he wanted to beat Dusty so he would try and defend against him whenever he could. I loved the opposite direction of this as it's usually the champion that refuses to wrestle someone not the challenger. Definite extra. Florida TV Title: Barry Windham © vs. "Hangman" Bobby Jaggers (8/13/80) Windham is a rookie here but getting the rookie push. Windham is trying to wrestle with Jaggers but Jaggers is using his intensity to his advantage striking Windham often on his head. After a leapfrog by Windham, Jaggers would run into the referee and got caught by Windham's lariat but there was no ref. Jaggers loaded up his elbow pad and nailed Windham who went to the floor. Jaggers battered Windham on the floor before the referee called for the bell as the match was out of control. Jaggers beat Windham bloody after the match but Barry fought back valiantly and got rid of him. Next we would get clips of Dusty vs. Terry Funk on 9/18/79 where the Funks tried to break his arm. Dick Murdoch is supposed to wrestle Dick Slater next but Slater arrives late so Murdoch who brought a box to the ring opened it up and it was a dress which he put on Slater after beating his ass. Extra material. (7/16/80) Then we get the angle that preceeded this one the week before as Murdoch first brought the box with a dress for Slater. (7/9/80) Next we get Take 5 with Barbara Clary featuring clips of Jack & Jerry Brisco's battles with Hiro Matsuda, Mr. Pogo, & Haru Sonoda and breaking Sir Oliver Humperdink's leg in Jacksonville on 5/17/81 and the Japanese trying to break Jerry's leg later on TV. Hiro Matsuda & Mr. Pogo vs. Jack & Jerry Brisco (5/27/81) This is JIP as the Japanese bought the contracts of the original opponents of the Brisco's where after a ref bump the Japanese doubled up on Jerry to win. Florida TV Title: El Gran Apollo © vs. Magnificent Muraco (5/27/81) This is JIP as Muraco challenged Apollo who had already wrestled once. Muraco takes this weird bump into the ropes here where his head hit the bottom part of the top rope and his neck snapped. Apollo is getting a big push here as he already beat Muraco once. RT Tyler comes out as they double up on Apollo then they cut his hair Dory Funk Jr. vs. Steve Keirn (5/27/81) Keirn is days away from going to Memphis but you wouldn't know it here as Keirn gives Dory everything he has including a nice piledriver for a nearfall. Dory would chuck him to the floor out of desperation then posted him before Dory locked on the spinning toehold on a knocked out Keirn to win. Dory kept the hold after the match until Mike Graham showed up with Dory going to the floor but he would return as Mike wasn't loking and threw him out. Dory then assaulted Scrappy McGowan before going back to Graham where he came off the top with a knee to the face. Dory just destroys McGowan here even giving him a piledriver and he looks like his brother Terry here raising all this hell. Extra material. Next we get clips of Keirn's swansong in Florida as Keirn's leg gets completely injured here by the Funks in St. Petersburg on 5/30/81. Then we get clips of the Bounty Hunters (David & Jerry Novak) trying to injure Tommy Gilbert on 6/3/81 but Tommy fights both of them off. Tommy Gilbert vs. Jerry Novak (6/10/81) Jim Kent gets involved quickly for the DQ and gets stripped for his trouble by Gilbert & Cocoa Samoa. Gilbert chases Kent under the ring where he strips him naked then as the Bounty Hunters give him something to wrap with Gilbert does a fucking tope suicida to the floor to rip that off. Crazy spot there and Solie was great selling the supposed nudity. Extra material. Next we get clips of Dusty & Dory brawling with each other in Tampa on 6/16/81. This one goes all over the ringside area and is great stuff as the Assassins along with Charlie Cook & Sweet Brown Sugar get involved. Extra material. British Empire Rules Match for the Florida Heavyweight Title: Dory Funk Jr. © vs. Mike Graham (7/8/81) There are 6 rounds with each round going 7 minutes. Coach John Heath was on commentary and was solid in describing the amateur part of the match. This was a really damn good wrestling match here as both men excelled at working this style and they didn't keep it boring as they mixed a regular wrestling style match with the matwork. Terry would come out to help his brother in the 2nd round adding an extra element here. The more time that went on the more intense it got as both men were pulling out all stops here trying to win rounds especially Dory. They go to the 6th round tied up 2-2-1 and the crowd is very hot for everything going on here as Terry gets involved, Dory is juicing from the left eye, and Mike is all kinds of fired up. Dory is fully desperate here trying to stall some and pulls Mike over the top with him but no DQ was called. Terry is awesome here rooting for Dory as time ticks by and time runs out as Mike has Dory in the figure-four. Helluva match here and a very easy nomination. Then we get clips of Graham/Lawler vs. Funks in Tampa on 7/14/81. Next we get clips of Terry Funk trying to collect the $1,000 bounty on Tommy Gilbert in Orlando in 7/26/81. $5,000 Challenge: "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer vs. Cocoa Samoa (8/5/81) Cocoa replaced Wild Bill Snyder here. Cocoa has Buzz all kinds of frazzled here to start but he recovers before Cocoa caught him in the air with a chop to win. Solie points out though that Buzz's foot was on the bottom rope and Buzz attacks Cocoa afterwards as he has the money. Cocoa runs him off though in the end. Then we get clips of Jack Brisco/Cook vs. Assassins from Orlando on 7/26/81. Next we get clips of Dusty defending the NWA title against the Assassin in Tampa on 8/11/81.
