June 11, 201312 yr comment_5547621 Reading through this thread, I think people are missing that Backlund was a guy who was way more Furnas than he was Kroffat. When you watch him, there is a direct power wrestler babyface line that runs from Sammartino through Backlund to Hogan. People are recommending a bunch of Kroffat's, when Furnas is what appeals to the WWWF fans (or what the fed knew how to book for their fans). Obviously the answer is Kevin Sullivan then.
June 11, 201312 yr Author comment_5547628 I am too lazy to look back through the thread now, but I think I did mention the strongman aspect/power spots a few times. I suspect his ability to do those things did matter some, though I don't think that was the primary reason for interest.
June 11, 201312 yr comment_5547631 I'm saying that the way Backlund worked is very much in keeping with WWF main event heavyweight style. It isn't the way Dibiase worked as face. Jack Brisco works far more like Sting than he does like Hogan. I just want to move away from the imaginary Backlund who had "George St Piere charisma" (TM Dave Meltzer) and toward what he was actually doing.
