May 3, 200520 yr comment_1970507 I agree. He knows he is going to make a ton of money. That is just self-congratulatory BS he feeds the sheets so people will think, "Gee Willikers, that George sure is a down-to-Earth guy." I have been watching the previews... and they look absolutely awesome.. but I get sad watching them. After this installment, it effectively kills off a huge part of my childhood. For 20+ years, I could imagine in my head how Darth Vader became Darth Vader or how the twins got separated. Now, it will play out the way Lucas wants to and I lose that imagination that has carried me for so long. I don't know if I can deal with that.
May 3, 200520 yr Author comment_1971340 See, this is where I end up siding with Lucas. I don't like him tinkering with the story in the movies he already made, but I don't have a problem with him telling the Vader/twins story the way he wants it told.
May 3, 200520 yr comment_1972021 No, no , no. That isn't what I meant at all. Lucas can do whatever he wants and that is fine. I am talking about how it will affect me on a personal level. The first two prequels didn't really tear me up emotionally because there was enough of a disconnect between them and the original trilogy. For this one, I end up losing the images of what I thought it would be like. That will be filled in by Lucas now. I am growing and feeling old now and this movie is going to kill a part of my youth that I was able to cling onto.
May 3, 200520 yr Author comment_1972372 I get what you're saying, but personally I'm looking forward to seeing how Anakin transforms into Vader. This seems like one case where Lucas's tendancy to make everything overblown might actually be a plus.
May 3, 200520 yr comment_1972466 I've been looking forward to this moment ever since Lucas announced the prequel trilogy. Now that it is here, I'm getting cold feet.

May 4, 200520 yr comment_1986274 OK, after reading the script, I think this may be the best one yet. Alot of the cheesy dialogue from Jedi and a couple of earlier ones doesn't seem so cheesy anymore. Unfortunately, alot of this movie is going to depend on the interaction between Padme and Anakin. If they deliver their lines the way they did in Clone Wars, this may lose some of its effectiveness.
May 4, 200520 yr comment_1986725 If they deliver their lines the way they did in Clone Wars, this may lose some of its effectiveness. I'm actually in the small minority that thought their dialogue was absolutely fine in Episode II.
May 4, 200520 yr comment_1986787 I thought their delivery was okay, but the lines themselves were unforgivable. I'm still defiant when it comes to buying any of the Star Wars DVDs, but I'm sure we'll probably go check out Episode 3, especially with the new theater in town having a gigantic "ultrascreen."
May 4, 200520 yr comment_1986811 Maybe I'm just a softy, but the lines didn't really bother me either. Granted they were extremely cheesy, but I was offended by them.
May 4, 200520 yr comment_1987304 Maybe I'm just a softy, but the lines didn't really bother me either. Granted they were extremely cheesy, but I was offended by them. Me too! That was my point.
May 4, 200520 yr Author comment_1987365 I read that script, and all I have to say is holy shit! I think Lucas will silence the doubters with this one.
May 4, 200520 yr comment_1987905 Glossing over that script, this does look pretty good. I really hope the scenes with Anakin and Palpatine come off well; the dialouge looks good enough, so hopefully it'll transfer into some good scenes.
May 4, 200520 yr comment_1988075 Well, the Emperor has always been one of the strongest characters in the original prequel and this series. I have no doubt he will give a strong delivery.
May 4, 200520 yr comment_1989819 You know what? I don't consider myself a softie or "pussy" of any sort, but I'm reading the screenplay right now and I'm at the part where Yoda and Obi-Wan are looking at the holograms of what occured in the Jedi Temple. When Kenobi sees the truth, why did my eyes well up with tears? What he asks Yoda, what Yoda tells him...it's fucking HEARTBREAKING SHIT, man.
May 5, 200520 yr comment_1994458 I am glad I am not the only one. This goes back to what I was saying... we are seeing complete evil coming to life. Before, I had in my mind, what it was like when the Empire took over and how Darth Vader came to be. Now, it is going to be in my face and I am saddened by that. I always imagined, based on Leia's words that she was able to remember her mother. Now, I am not so sure. Reading the entire script, it is one heartbreaking moment after another. No cheap slapsick shit here. This is true emotion.
May 9, 200520 yr comment_2052577 You knew it was coming sooner or later -- From Ain't It Cool News, Harry Knowles' Revenge of the Sith review
May 9, 200520 yr comment_2053344 That guy echoed half of my sentiments. PLAGIARISM~! But, seriously, that is how it should feel. I think that if this movie is half as good as I think it will be, then the original trilogy will have twice as much impact on me.
May 9, 200520 yr comment_2053389 Spielberg said he was in tears at the end of the movie. I don't know, make of that what you will.
May 9, 200520 yr comment_2053434 Who cares what Spielberg says??? *I* said I CRIED just READING THE SCRIPT! Doesn't that count for something??? All I'm waiting for now is to see it; to see if Portman and Hayden can pull off what I've read on the page. I know McGregor will come through and I know for sure that it's going to be one of his lines that BREAKS me in the theater. I might have to go alone the first time I see it so I don't start crying in front of someone I know. I've talked shit about these prequels and Lucas for YEARS but man, he did it the right way. He really saved the best for last. He's taken the Star Wars mythos to a place none of us dreamed imaginable when we saw the original 28 years ago.
May 9, 200520 yr comment_2053481 Cj, if this one pays off, do you think the first two could become better in your eyes by putting it in context of the trilogy?
May 9, 200520 yr comment_2053629 Short answer: no. But it does make the original trilogy that much more fun to watch. I'm all for stories that span generations. Dragonball is a bad example but that was part of its appeal for me.
May 9, 200520 yr comment_2054082 Still am in the dark about the contents of Ep. III, but I'm gonna bet the first two aren't going to seem any better after seeing this one. To me, Ep. I was absolutely worthless and served no real point in the grand scheme of things. I didn't need to see Anakin as a child, or Jar Jar make his first appearance, or anything like that. Ep. II was a little better, but it still didn't feel like it was setting everything up that well. If this one's as a good as everyone is saying it is, it's safe to say that this will be the only installment of the new trilogy that was necessary. Sounds like Ep. III accomplished more than the first two did together. As it should've, since that was almost everyone's excuse for the first two being so underwhelming.
May 9, 200520 yr comment_2054345 I think Episode II accomplished more of setting up things than Episode I ever did, but in the end they were both essential in the grand schemes of things. In Episode I, we see Anakin becomes Obi-Wan's understudy, and that's really about all it sustains. It gives us a little information about Anakin's background as well with his mom. I still think Episode I had one the best lightsaber fights you'll see even though most people refer to it as a "spotfest" kind of duel. Episode II was more political, but set up some very important things as well. The first sign of Anakin falling to the Dark Side, Jango Fett/Boba Fett, Clone Troopers/Stormtroopers, the sign of the Death Star -- many important stuff happens in Episode II. Now, with Episode III everything wraps up quite nicely and it sounds like it's going to be excellent film. Cj, if this one pays off, do you think the first two could become better in your eyes by putting it in context of the trilogy? If you mean the prequel trilogy, I think it does even if it's not that much. I mean, the first two films really don't stand on their own very well but with the addition of Episode III in the mix it really ties everything together as the trilogy it's supposed to be. Spielberg said he was in tears at the end of the movie. I don't know, make of that what you will. It means that it's some very deep shit in this film that hits home with you. You realize that Anakin turning to the Dark Side is much more than you ever would think it would be and it really hits like a rock. I've thought of Star Wars as something to cry about, but Episode III could very trigger that emotion. I'm known to cry films so if there aren't a few tears in my eyes by the end I know there's something wrong with me.
