Posted July 16, 200520 yr comment_2886449 http://tv.yahoo.com/feature/emmynominees05.html Finally, Deadwood gets a best Drama Series nomination. Glenn Close was great on The Shield this year, so I'm glad to see her name on the list. The "Best Friends Forever" episode of South Park was classic. Nice to see it nominated. The big omissions for me are: - The Shield not nominated for Best Drama. - Michael Chiklis and whoever played Antwon Mitchell (Can't believe I don't know his name - the guy was great. Evil as hell.) not nominated for Best Lead Actor/Best Supporting Actor. - Timothy Olyphant never getting any love for his performance on Deadwood. Yes, Al Swearengen is God, but Olyphant is great as Bullock, and he has to do it with the look on his face and the movement of his body alone, as he doesn't get all the cool lines Swearengen does.
July 16, 200520 yr comment_2887624 Will Arnett got hosed. He's consistently the best part of Arrested Development, but doesn't get a Supporting Actor nod, while Jeffrey Tambor, who's a funny guy but just doesn't do much on the show, gets one. Poor GOB.
July 17, 200520 yr comment_2893807 I don't how out of EVERYONE on Nip/Tuck, only Jill Clayburgh got a nom as a guest star. Especially considering that the series is up for outstanding casting, yet none of the regulars or supporting cast get recognized. How do you figure that?

I'm not a regular viewer of AD, but I would have to believe Tambor's nomination was purely based on reputation from his Larry Sanders days. I don't think they believe Arnett has firmly established himself yet.
July 18, 200520 yr comment_2907709 Yeah, probably. It's not a knock on Tambor, but you could probably fill up the supporting actor category with AD actors and not even include Tambor. Arnett, David Cross, Tony Hale, and Michael Cera all deserve consideration, and deliver more laughs, for me anyway, on the show. Again, nothing against Tambor, but I get more enjoyment out of the other 4 characters than I do from George and/or Oscar.
July 18, 200520 yr comment_2907987 I'm surprised Will & Grace is still getting nominated. It's nowhere near as funny as it used to be, although Megan Mullally still rocks. What I've seen of Alan Alda on The West Wing has been fantastic. I see QT got his CSI nom as well.
July 18, 200520 yr comment_2909842 Peter Krause and Michael C. Hall from Six Feet Under gave the best performances of any actors on TV. Nate Fisher is one of the best written and best acted characters in TV history, IMO. Seeing that neither one got nominated, and that SFU as a whole got jobbed out save Frances Conroy's nomination just sealed the deal and the Emmys are offically a joke. I just hope either Family Guy or South Park wins the animated series award, Samurai Jack doesn't deserve a nomination and the Simpsons are there just for sticking around for 100 years.

Good to see my favorite show on television get the praise it rightfully deserves. And, just to clarify the miniseries nonsense: "The 4400" was 2004's highest-rated basic cable series. USA originally intended it as a miniseries, but the strong response led the network to order a second season, consisting of 13 episodes.
July 25, 200520 yr comment_2975462 So has David Cross been nominated as well? I think he's the best thing about it, miles funnier than the Dad and better even than Gob (although Gob is brilliant too).
July 25, 200520 yr comment_2975860 Hugh Laurie better run away with that Best Actor award. It would be interesting to see Tarantino snatch the Best Director for his CSI work as well, though I imagine Abrams would get it for Lost. Also, how exactly is Desperate Housewives a comedy? It's got a little bit of everything, sure, but most of the underlying plotlines in the first season were pure drama.
July 25, 200520 yr comment_2976585 It just goes to show what a joke the Emmys are when a show gets nominated in a different category than it should be. Remember that episode of the Sopranos where they find an Emmy in a pawn shop? Even in Hollywood they've lost all meaning.
August 4, 200520 yr comment_3076010 It just goes to show what a joke the Emmys are when a show gets nominated in a different category than it should be. Well, in the Emmy's committee's defense, the first season of The 4400 was strictly a miniseries (5 episodes counting the pilot)... it wasn't until the second season until it began a full-blown series.
September 19, 200520 yr comment_3465556 Man, they could have re-run last year's show and no one would have known the difference. I'm so glad Everyone Loves Raymond is finally going away so now someone else can win a fucking Emmy. It was a travesty enough that Six Feet Under only got one acting nom, they also lost the Best Drama award to Lost. I guess Emmy voters must go to bed early on Sunday nights, since they've never won a Best Drama or any Acting awards. Maybe they'll sweep next year when the Emmys do the usual "give all the awards to the show that's ending its run" routine.
