August 8, 201312 yr Author comment_5555454 This was hyped up like crazy forever, and honestly, I can see how Bischoff's idea to do a martial arts division with a Mortal Kombat look and feel didn't seem like the worst idea in the world on paper. I do think it could have been something, but they never really invested in it. Mortis should have been Kanyon's career gimmick. Here, we get Mortis attacking Glacier from behind and the debut of Wrath as his tag team partner. Eric Bischoff, for whatever else we can say about him, was willing to try some pretty ballsy things during this time. I mean, he tried to build a martial arts division around Ray Lloyd, Kanyon and Adam Bomb. Not everything worked, and ultimately, this particular idea didn't. But he was willing to give it a shot.
August 24, 201312 yr comment_5558269 On one of the rekent WWE Xbox games I downloaded a komplete roster of Mortal Kombat Kharakters, as well as multiple MK rings and other kool stuff. So it wasn't such a krazy idea from Biskhoff in '97. They kould've just got a bunch of jobbers to wear near identikal ninja kostumes with different kolours to tell who was who. Damn I keep getting autokorrekted.
September 3, 201312 yr comment_5560100 These characters just belonged in the early 90’s though. They would have fit in on that WMAC Masters show. Bischoff should have pushed for health gauges like a video game showing up on the screen for Glacier vs Mortis matches.
October 25, 201311 yr comment_5568804 This angle feels really hokey and dumb in a vaccum. About the best thing you can say is that Mortis' superkick to Glacier looked real good. Wrath is revealed to almost no reaction and Tony screaming about how huge he is. Looks pretty bad just coming off the stuff we saw on Raw.
June 9, 201411 yr comment_5606505 Glacier looked dumb for the longest time, but once they got the whole gimmick going with Mortis and Wrath (as an old Adam Bomb fan, I was quite happy to see him resurface in WCW at the time), I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, especially since the matches were fun. I wish they went full bore with this, with even more characters. This added another layer to the WCW product which was already pretty diverse.
September 8, 201510 yr comment_5697755 Yeah, if anything, the problem with this is that ultimately they didn't commit to it enough, just sort of shunting it off into a sideshow into making it into yet another attraction to go along with the cruiserweights. The crowd is actually really hot for this, and reacting in all the right ways too. Of course Nitro crowds were hot in general, but I think this segment shows the idea had some legs to it. And yes, having the same random jobber show up every week with a different-colored ninja costume pretending to be a different character would have some brilliant icing on the cake.
