Jeff Jarrett returns to the WWF and SHOOTS on WCW and Eric Bischoff. The crowd isn't happy to see him at all, and this wasn't a good pickup for the WWF. He complains about being booked with an ex-football player who can't lock up and says Debra gives new meaning to the term dumb blonde.

He then turns his attention to Vince. Jarrett buries the Double J vision from Vince and says he was booked with a clown, a drug addict (wow!) and a black man who can't even speak the English language (double wow!). He then says since he didn't put his dad out of business, then he could at least kill his son off. He then brags about walking out on Vince before he could put the knife in him. He talks about how he is back for way more money than he was making last time around.

He then turns his attention to Bret (living on name recognition from the past), Shawn (only able to wrestle once a week because of a broken down body) and Austin (ripping off the Bible to put money in his pocket).

Not the best way to debut a guy who people already find grating, even if it was an interesting segment.

What a timid response by the crowd for Jeff. In the heat of the Monday Night Wars you think there would be a bigger reaction to Jarrett. Jeff making fun of Debra is funny since he would be aligned with her during his more successful stint in WWF. Ahmed burial continues even though he is not on TV. Jarrett buries the Double J character. Jeff is stuck in the past as calls Austin the Ringmaster. Ah, we are coming close to the NWA faction.

What an odd career arc for Jarrett at this point :

_jumps back to WWF : shoot promo. Doesn't get over.

_NWA champ : doesn't get over.

_Double J gimmick again : doesn't get over.

_Short hair and "pissed off gimmick" : doesn't get over.

_Gets Debra : puppies get over.

_hits women (Russo booking) : gets a reaction, but is he really over ?

_jumps back to WCW : shoot promo. Doesn't get over.

_hits women (Russo booking) : gets a reaction, but is still not over.

I wonder if the fans honestly didn't recognize Jarrett--he's got his hair slicked back and is in a dweeby suit. We can roll our eyes at Vince constantly having his guys in their ring gear, but there is something to be said for "branding" and I think the lack of it hurt Jeff here. Of course, he wasn't exactly super-over in any of his other Big Two roles, either. No one in the crowd is impressed by Jarrett blasting WCW and Bischoff--he's blasting the competition but is so whiny about it that it's impossible to cheer him. Jeff talks about "stroke" and makes fun of Debra in two odd moments of foreshadowing. Poor Vince gets verbally abused yet again. There are some attention-getting lines and passages here, to be sure, but I don't recall anything about this run adding up to anything consistent or high-quality.

Jeff Jarrett comes out & shoots on the WCW, Eric Bischoff, the WWF, Vince, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, & Steve Austin. The highlight is Jarrett saying he'll walk right out the door if Vince disrespects again resuling in the fans cheering because they clearly don't like Jarrett here. This went on & on. Some of Jarretts insults were funny including calling Shawn (?) or Razor (?) a drug addict. I didn't care for this though & thought it went too long & made Jarrett unlikable. Definitely too whiny. A total Russo segment.
