I voted WCW as long as the emphasis is on WCW alone and not NWA. I don't think most of the people here have seen a huge chunk of the NWA. Hell, I saw most of it when i was a kid and am just now revisiting it after 15-20 years. I doubt many have had the same exposure. That could have been the problem with the Tag teams. The best tag teams were around before many of the guys here even started watching wrestling.

I think for the group of posters that we have here at NMB we should go with best match. Matches can easily be argued...especially if the general consensus rates two matches the same. Anything else, it all comes down to workrate. How could we run an ECW tournament and have people like The Sandman and New Jack in it? They were big deals in ECW, but here, people like Danny Doring and JT Smith would get more votes. No one looks past the workrate. "Name me good matches they were in."

I don't know -- there weren't any big names that got murdered in the WWF tournament. The main problem with judging "impact" is that the only way to do it is by looking at facts, namely, attendance figures and PPV buyrates. There's far less subjectivity in that.

I think if we're going to do Best Match, we need to follow DVDVR's example and send out DVDs to everyone to watch and vote on. It may also be a good idea to do it company by company. I'm willing to run that starting in January or so, provided everyone can send DVDs to me and cover their own postage. By then, I'll have a DVD burner and VHS to DVD converter, so we could collect everything and put everyone on the same page.

Of course, I'd also suggest that anyone who gets DVDs and doesn't vote on all the matches get banned from the board, but that's just me.

I don't know how that would pan out. It could be a blessing in disguise or a disaster waiting to happen. I'd probably not get involved just for fear of something coming up and getting banned. I've lost internet for a week before, in example. No warning. No solutions from my ISP other than "we can send a tech. out next Monday."

Actually, I don't know. It might be worth the risk just to be able to see all of the footage and express your opinion. I probably would go for it. DVD's don't cost that much and neither does postage.

I'm batting some things around amongst the other mods and will talk more about it once they've put in their two cents. In the meantime, I think we can do the WCW tournament since it got the second highest number of votes and since it'll take some time to really get the ball rolling on the Best Match idea anyway.

Talking to a few people about the DVDVR deal, I have heard it is a logistical nightmare. Also, there are a limited amount of people here who have the ability to burn and distribute, namely myself and teke. Others may have the ability to duplicate and some have the ability to convert. However, it is hard enough managing trades and buys with 5-6 guys, much less an entire board. I don't know at this time if I would volunteer to distribute the matches.
