Posted July 17, 201312 yr comment_5552407 Bunkhouse Match: "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, "Mr. Unpredictable" Dick Slater, & Ricky Steamboat vs. Tully Blanchard & The Long Riders (Ron Bass & Black Bart) (12/25/84) Slater comes out wearing this obscenely huge cowboy hat and Magnum is at ringside with a bullrope around Dillon. The Charlotte fans are going nuts for everything here to start as the faces just pound on the heels. Straight up ass whipping here and the heels throw chairs in the ring trying to counter but the faces grab them and take a seat which was always a fun spot. Crazy babyface Slater is my favorite Slater and he is great here teeing off on the heels. The heels would use leather straps to get over on Dusty while Bass piledrives Steamer. Tully would use his boot as an equalizer and the heels are in control now. Steamer takes a ridiculous bump over top to the floor after a Tully irish whip while Dusty & Slater are making comebacks. This is a total war that gets cut off. We have this more complete elsewhere. "Ragin Bull" Manny Fernandez & "Avalanche" Buzz Tyler vs. Black Bart & Dory Funk Jr. (2/20/85) The fans are hot here which was the norm for the tapings at this time and why JCP had such great TV. Decent action to start and it picks up when Manny works FIP where he is fun no selling Dory's uppercuts. Tyler gets the tag and comes in working the heels over until Dillon pulls down the top rope allowing Tyler to go over for the DQ. Manny attacks Dillon afterwards for good measure. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. Kurt Von Hess (8/22/84) Hess gets some offense in on Flair's bad neck but Flair would get the win still fairly easily. Mike Rotundo & Barry Windham vs. Paul Kelly & Gary Royal (9/12/84) Rotundo & Windham were in JCP for a very short time before they went to WWF....I think Dusty was grooming them for the NWA Tag Titles but they left so he & Manny took the belts instead. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine vs. Steve Muslin (September 1983) Good win for Valentine. No DQ Match for the NWA World Tag Titles: Don Kernodle & "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff © vs. Renegade (Jay Youngblood) & Mark Youngblood (8/22/84) Crowd is volcanic for the Youngbloods here. The Renegade deal was Jay was having serious drug problems at the time and he had gained some weight as well. Really fun shine section to start as the faces work over the champs who are so good at playing defense. The champs would get the advantage though and worked over Renegade fiercely. Kernodle & Ivan were a really good shortlived team and had good chemistry. Renegade's hope spots were pretty damn fun and this crowd was eating everything up begging for him to tag his brother. Mark gets the hot tag and he runs wild sending the heels reeling before his brother joins in on the fun. Mark hits the big running chop on Kernodle for a nearfall then gets a nearfall on Ivan before getting a sleeper on Ivan which sees Nikita show up allowing Kernodle to hit a clothesline off the top rope to the back of Mark's head allowing Ivan to pin him. This was no DQ so it was all legal. Helluva match here and an easy nomination. "King Kong" Angelo Mosca & Mark Youngblood vs. Bill Howard & Magic Dragon (October 1983) Easy win for the faces. Mark Lewin runs out before the finish wanting to get involved but Gary Hart pushes him back. NWA World TV Title: The Great Kabuki © vs. Steve Muslin (November 1983) Quite a few empty seats here. Kabuki dominates this. Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood vs. Kelly Kiniski & Gary Royal (December 1983) Good win for the faces. Stan "The Lariat" Hansen vs. Don Herbert (3/7/84) I thought that Hansen would've been awesome in a long run in JCP around this time. Don Kernodle & "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff vs. Brickhouse Brown & Gene Ligon (3/21/84) Brick is very young here and gets some offense in making this somewhat competitive. Kernodle just kills Ligon with a lariat. Tully Blanchard vs. Brett Hart (3/21/84) This Brett is of course Barry Horowitz. Easy win for Tully. Already seen the Assassins/Wahoo/Valiant match. NWA World TV Title Tournament - Finals: "Mr. Unpredictable" Dick Slater vs. Mark Youngblood (3/7/84) Slater jumped Mark before the bell and Mark is injured so Slater dominates at the start. The crowd is hot for Mark here as he tries to fight back but Slater seems to be too much for him. Mark comes back though firing chops hitting his falling chop for a nearfall but Slater pulls Mark to the floor to stop his flurry. Slater brings Mark back in from the apron with a backdrop suplex hold for a pin but Mark got his shoulder up not Slater and Mark won the title. Fun little match but not enough for a nomination.
